Hudson Football 2018

I didn't see a thread earlier on this so I am posting about Hudson football;
also there doesn't seem to be as much discourse on here about what's going on with the Explorers as in years past. Usually there's some thread started by now but I've seen nothing that's stuck around here for long.

I've been away from the program somewhat in the past 6-8 years can anyone close(r) to the program update with their prospects for 2018?

Probably 6-4. Could be 5-5 or 7-3 pending outcome of big games with Springfield, Nordonia, Wadsworth.

No disrespect intended, but is Springfield really one of Hudson's big games? I can see the others you listed as being the ones to circle on the schedule for Hudson, but unless something's drastically different I didn't recall Springfield as having too much overall success recently in football. I'm not bagging the Springfield program here, I'm just being honest.

To clarify, the Springfield in question is Springfield High School in SW Ohio (Clark County), not Springfield in the Akron area.

If this was not in question, I apologize.

I wasn't aware the Springfield that Hudson is playing this week isn't Akron Springfield. Thank you, brian, for pointing that out.

Akron Springfield has their best shot for a win this year playing Kenmore-Garfield this week

I think Springfield may be the school Mo Douglass, the former Trotwood Madison coach, took over 2 or 3 years ago.

Even the best of the public schools are destined to have a down season every once in a while as communities and programs sometimes just have a bad class of athletes. Fortunately, Hudson has built a decent youth program under some competent and consistent leadership, so they shouldn't be down long.

Going back to the end of 2017, Hudson has lost five of their last 6 games.

Defense is giving up an average of 30 points/game during that period. Hudson doesn't have enough offensive fire power/weapons to win shootouts (against the better teams).

Now that Hudson is firmly entrenched in D2 - and starting to see a drop in the turnout - might be time to revisit the non-conference schedule. Not sure playing all three games against D-1 programs is the best route forward.

As others have mentioned, Suburban league looks to be down this year so a winning record is still possible. To me, looking like a 5-5 or 6-4 year and the playoff streak ends. Hope I'm wrong.

Narducci had 3 playoff appearances in in 15 yrs. Hudson has been in the playoffs every year since Tom left. Get back on your meds.

Hudson has some nice players on the lines and a good, big strong tailback, but the passing game I saw against Fitch wasn't great. They also were a little slow on the outside, which is how Fitch was able to beat them. Tough team though. I just think they are going to have a tough time with quick teams like Fitch. That being said, Hudson could just as easily be 3-0 as 0-3. I hope they can get it together. I would personally keep feeding the big tailback the whole game. I think if they did more of that against Fitch they might have won.

Agree that Hudson might have beaten Fitch if they pounded it more. Problem going forward is the #1 back injured last night (he runs tough).

Passing game is struggling. QB is not mobile and holds the ball too long. Looks like only one WR that can get separation with any regularity. But at some point you have to take off or throw it away. Especially when you primarily run the ball - can't afford the lost yards on sacks.

Too many penalties on offense - trend the last couple of years. Again, makes it difficult to march the ball down the field 5/6 yards at a time (no real home run threat).

Agree that D has a hard time holding the corners (not as big and don't have as much across the field speed as they had in years past). I do like the way 45 gets after it- reminds me of the some of the solid D players they've had in the past.

All that said, I thought they played hard against a bigger, faster and very physical Springfield team last night (Hudson backs and receivers took some real shots but bounced right back up). And you can keep your head up when you do that.

Real tough three game slate to the open the season - all three D1 teams and all with good shots to make the playoffs (although Strongsville has a real meat grinder the next three weeks . . . Mentor/Solon/Euclid).

Things should get a bit easier in conference play as SL looks to be down this year. I do think Hudson will have more success running against the other D2 teams in the league.

Take 'em one a time and keep fighting.

Good luck to Fitch (and Strongsville and Springfield) the rest of the way.

How bad is the kid who got hurt? I really like him. He was big and fast and strong. Hudson did play three tough teams to start the season. Got to give them props for that. Hopefully they can run the table and get back into the playoffs.

Not a blowout, but the "L" has Hudson at 0-3.

From the outside, this Hudson team could have the same fate as the 2009 Strongsville team, in that its record could look bad despite it actually being a very good team that played a challenging schedule and lost a bunch of close games.

http://www.joeeitel.com/hsfoot/teams...09&teamID=1498

Ironic that if that Strongsville team would've won just one more game, Hudson would've made the playoffs that year. I have a feeling that this Strongsville team could miss the plaoffs due to the fact that Hudson may only win 3-4 games (despite being 6-7 win team in terms of quality.)
