D II Region 5 Championship: Archbishop Hoban (11-1) vs Barberton (12-0)

I am pretty stoked to see this one. Both teams have thoroughly dominated the Akron area all season and have seemingly been on a collision course to next week. I haven't seen either in person so I cannot give any info otherwise but I will be at this game.

Any thoughts, observations going into this one?

This is the regional final many expected and greatly anticipated. Hope a poll can be added to this thread.

Speculate on game site. Infocision? Green?

I can see all the Highland people picking Hoban already.

As long as Infocision put in, it obviously makes the most sense. Akron plays on Tuesday this coming week, so no conflict there.

If not Infocision, I'd like to see it at Lake. From a football perspective, my son always felt that was a good "bad weather" field that would be a benefit to both teams if the weather remains a factor.

I'm hoping for Infocision, but the geniuses at OHSAA could take it anywhere.

Please Lord, let this thread be about the actual game this week.

The Barberton faithful always seemed a lot more ticked of at STVM than they ever have been at Hoban. So I trust they will keep the conversation on point and about their excellent football team. So, with one VERY notable exception, I have faith that the posters will keep the focus where it belongs... on the kids and the game...

Didn't I see on a recent thread that Lake's field wouldn't be a location for playoff games this year? My memory of late is suspect, so I could have dreamed it.

Lake is building a new high school so parking is limited at this point. I don’t think they offered to host this year.

This should be a great game.

Hoban is the real deal, Barberton looks like the real deal.

Is there a slight possibility that it ends up in Twinsburg or Hudson if not Infocision? Both schools are in Summit County and have the capacity to hold playoff games.

Depends on the potential crowd and what type of cost InfoCision has for games. Since they do host regular season games, they've been pretty common to host playoff games as well. If any local game deserves a spot there, it would be this one.

Barberton has an incredible skill set in their QB Ries RB Thompson RB Parker WR Trumbull. They are legit. Hoban has a great defense. 90% of Summit County will be wearing purple in this one. Good Luck to Coach Gotto

If UA put in to host, this one has to be at InfoCision. I think this will draw 10,000-plus. No other stadium in Summit County has that capacity.

Might be close to start, but Hobanís running game will wear them down. Hoban by 14+.

If Hoban does win this game by 14+, then they can walk to the championship.

In my opinion, this is the State Championship Game.

Hoban's resume needs no explanation. They are a beast, a powerhouse, a machine. It will take maximum effort for The Magics to win this game.

Barberton's resume isn't shabby either. That Magics have played six playoff teams and have won those games by an average of 29.6 points. Five of those games have had running clocks. The lone exception was a 21 point victory over St. V.

Many may have forgotten that these two senior classes played one heck of a freshman game against each other in 2014.

Good luck to both teams. Come out injury free

I'm on the fence here as I haven't seen Barberton play. I like Hoban but I would try to go after their DB's, when young LBs are in I would run misdirection as their heads are in the backfield. If 33 is in audible away from running in between tackles. Front 4 is great. Love 17. Throw under the coverage as the games I have seen Hoban plays DBs deep as they do not have luxury of the 2015 defense of having two guys that could catch anyone. This team defense is good but their are spots to exploit.

Offensively I love how Hoban pulls the center. However if backside guys miss blocks the get stopped. While it didn't matter Brush did have some big stops. So did St V in week 5. Barberton will have to disguise LB schemes or Hoban will run wild.

Brush had some speed but looked like they quit after fumble on 1 yard line. Also their coach sold out the blitz to force QB to throw and gave up big plays. No second level. Hoban o line gets up field. Coached well.

Barberton 34 - St. V 14
Hoban 21 - St V 7

Barberton 36 - Benedictine 6
Hoban 35 - Benedictine 17

Hoban is a powerhouse and have proven themselves. They are the real deal. Their defense is very impressive.

Barberton's QB is very poised, strong arm, and good athlete. His uncle went to Michigan. He will be all state.
Their TB is going to Ohio U.
Their WR will be all state.
Their slot is legit.
They have shown they are physical too.

I have a feeling it is going to come down to the QB position and turnovers.

Barberton 21 - Hoban 14

Despite La Salle and Winton Woods, I think this is the state championship.

People have been sleeping on the Magic.

They will wake up the state this week.

Uhh.....ummmm.....errrr....

R6 Winner of Avon v. Olmsted Falls

R8 Winner of LaSalle v. Winton Woods

With all due respect, the winner of these two games will no doubt be better than anyone that you have faced this year so far, and debate-ably, better than Hoban.

Best of luck to the Magics.

It's my sincere hope that all the planets align and that you guys throttle the Massill00nies in week 14 for a ticket to the Finals only 20 miles from Belgrade Gardens!!!!!!!

(I don't want to hear the "beaten by a private school" moaning from the Massill00nies if they make it out of their patsy Region)

Hoban played Ignatius.

Agree Avon, Olmsted Falls, LaSalle and Woods could beat Hoban and Barberton. But I think Hoban and Barberton are the best two if had to put money on it.

Forgot to mention earlier, Hoban has the recruiting advantage. Besides THE Ohio State Buckeyes, Hoban is the best recruiters in the state.

Every team in the final eight is there for a reason and all have a legit chance at the state championship. There isnt anything really to compare the schools other than common opponents which isnt much to compare.

It is just my opinion(and I have been wrong many times) That the winner of this game will win it all.
