Garfield Heights D-3 District Rankings (Off-Season #3)

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

I started moving wrestlers up and down from their previous year’s weights. The new weights are partially based off of where they’ve been wrestling in the off season, though a lot of it is pure guesswork at this time.
Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

I’ve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if I’m forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

-The schools of the incoming freshmen are based off of the previous Yappi thread. Please let me know if any are wrong or have changed.

3. Kyle Keenan- South Range (SQ)
4. William Campbell- Pymatuning Valley

7. Joe Viront- Tuslaw
8. Jon Duran- Lutheran West

Szuhay posted an 8-4 win over Brandt Virden at the KIT last year where he also defeated Ricky DiTurno 8-0 in the 5th place final. He’ll be in the middle of the hunt for state qualification at this district after Crestwood made the drop from D-2 to D-3.

Duvall was a district placer while wrestling up several weights at 145 for the post season (state placers Leightner and Chilson were at his more natural weights). Elrod has posted some impressive off season wins over Joe Warren, state qualifier Thomas Lytle, and state placer Seth Douglas.

Teams:
1. Tuslaw
2. Rootstown
3. (Ashtabula) St. John
4. Waynedale
5. Pymatuning Valley
6. Crestwood
7. Manchester
8. Smithville

Tuslaw could wind up with as many as 10 district placers, though I only have 1 currently ranked #1 at their respective weight class (Kuhlins). That being said, Phillips and Shirley could certainly claim a district crown, and there are a number of others who could walk away with a title if they continue to improve.

Rootstown looks like a solid #2 at this district, though they may have a higher ceiling than I am giving them credit for with the addition of middle-schoolers Anderson and Edwards.
A number of their wrestlers look like they could climb the rankings throughout the season, especially with the improvements that Boyle and Langguth made over their sophomore seasons.

St. John could end up with 3-4 district champs if Elrod continues to improve and Burgard is at 145. It’ll be interesting to see if can push Rootstown for a top 2 spot.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baum’s Page and Jake’s Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

If Gaige loses anymore weight, he just might be at 195 again. He normally puts weight on during football but this year he's losing a little.

WHats he plan on going for college? 197 or HWY? If heavy then 220 would be a better idea. If 197 the probably 195 a better idea.

Our HS had a state placer a couple years ago with the same dilemma.

They want him to wrestle heavyweight. At the start of football season he was over 220 but now he's bouncing between 210-214 depending on the day.
