If that don't work out, Marion Local is open week 2.

Tough task to ask a DVI/VII team to try and compete against a powerhouse in Massie, and dont think it would be a pushover for MSML.

They had trouble with CW in their two matchups recently, all the while MSML had their way with CW the last two season sans their week 10 meaningless game last season.

Who would Marion be holding out for that would make them turn this game down? Do they want to find a team 4 hours away like Shadyside? There's no reason Marion couldn't play Massie.

Maybe Massie doesn't want anything to do with MSML. They had troublew with CW the last two years and MSML is better than CW.

America is an unknown quantity at this point
Marion Local is all Catholic boys anyways. We know Massie's disgruntle towards Catholic schools over the years...

Massie is d4 region 16 and this group coming up will take on anyone. Freshman class was undefeated and played quite a few larger programs.

A clash between Marion Local - Clinton Massie would be great for football fans but there are several reason's why one or both teams may not want it to happen. They could have a disagreement on:
* the # of years they will play (one year, two year agreement)
* the location of the game - home/away
* maybe the coaching staffs know one another & don't want to play or maybe the coaching staffs dislike one another & want nothing to do with the other
* you have to look at what players you have returning & what is coming up in your program - I know CM has a very talented sophomore to be class
* there is a decent difference in size of both schools - Div IV & Div VI
* Marion Local has the brutal MAC league to navigate, maybe they simply didn't want another big game. CM does have a big non-league game vs Hartley but their league simply isn't the same degree of difficulty as the MAC.

I could see why London may not want to schedule Clinton Massie since they are in the same Division & Region and could face CM again in the playoffs. However, picking up Reigning Thunder Football Club is a bit of a head scratchier.

Both CM & ML are very successful and model's of how one would want their football program's run, both will be fine even if they only play 9 games this year. Here is some of the Ohio teams who still have openings for week 2 this year:

Avon Lake - Div II
New Philadelphia - Div III
Watterson - Div III
Cincinnati Hughes - Div III
Trotwood-Madison - Div III
Clinton Massie - Div IV
Struthers - Div IV
Marion Local - Div VI
Shadyside - Div VI
Mogadore - Div VI
Cuyahoga Heights - Div VII

How many of your Freshmen played in the Playoffs last season? I understand a program like CM probably doesn't need Freshmen to be successful on Friday Nights... just curious how many of them were ready for Friday Nights.

both Marion Local and Massie have 5 home games this coming season...so both could play a away game. If they could schedule a two game series, both might have to have a 6- 4 schedule and AD's and coaches usually don't like that.

Massie lost almost all of there size upfront on the defensive and offensive lines this year. The freshman class has quickness but not much size.

I think MSML should say yes and take their lumps so they are better prepared to play Kirtland in the finals but from what I heard though is that CM's underclassmen are so good that they may not lose a game the next three years so maybe the Flyers should just keep it open instead of taking a beating.

Now, Kirtland and CM would be a matchup worth seeing.

Massie did lose a little size but will be faster as a unit upfront.... there's plenty on the sideline waiting their turn.

Freshman team is quick, and they have good size for being just freshman. With 30+ kids in that class on the roster i'm sure a few will sprout up. What i like is they breath football several ditched winter and spring sports to be in strength and conditioning labs.

As far as scheduling, this should of been took care of months ago if not a year ago IMO. I would like to see a ML vs Massie game but the distance is brutal especially on a bus id imagine. With that said id, start with the closest to furthest. They should be looking for a week 1 game now for the future and get rid of East Clinton. Nothings gained from either team in that game.

If Clinton Massie calls Watterson. They will play. Im sure Watterson would much rather play a D4 public school that plays an easy schedule vs playing a D1 OCC playoff team

most coaches say it benefits the kids to be in other sports....you can still lift and play winter and spring sports....
