Lallathin resigns from St. X

Per Mike Dyer

Release from St. Xavier: Jimmy Lallathin has resigned as intervention specialist and head basketball coach for St. Xavier High School, to pursue a new path moving forward with his family. Coach Lallathin and his family would like to thank the St. Xavier community for the opportunity and wish the Bombers the best. He is proud of the growth in the basketball program and looks forward to its future success.

We wish him well as he continues his career and thank him for his service. A search for an interim head coach will take place in the coming weeks. All summer activities including basketball camps will continue as planned.

Well that's kind of...abrupt. Any idea what happened? Is he burned out?

There has to be some type of scandal. He was tweeting as of Tuesday about X spring sports and the basketball camp.

They just hired a new AD last month. Maybe they didn't see eye to eye.

The guy acted like a complete jerk with his sideline act. He was a fish out of water at St. X from day 1. St. X hoops is in a better place with him gone.

What changed between the end of the season and a week ago?

Why wouldn’t St. Xavier make a change when more coaches would be available?

They won their first League games in years last season. X might be better off, depends on who replaces him.

I thought Coach L and his staff had done a great job, to me it appeared they were turning the corner.

Whoever gets the job will inherit a program with more basketball talent than what he did when he arrived.

I personally would like to see them hire from within

Growing up around his two younger brothers, I can only imagine this assumes he might have applied for the Lakota West position?

If so, I hope he gets it...would be a good fit as he is an Old Lakota High grad.

The winning didn’t have much to do with him- watched him “coach” a few games this year, the football players deciding to play made all the difference, coach L was mostly ignored during games. This is a good gig- hopefully they get the right guy in here.

I would say that coaches and quarterbacks get too much credit and are blamed too much!
I would say if things were bad the football players would not have joined. How many young men did they have at tryouts the last few years?

I agree I believe it could be a great job especially if administration and donors let coaches play the best players.

Laughable. Won a state title and went two other final fours.

And I can tell you it had ZERO to do with applying for other jobs. It shouldn't be surprising though what happened, especially when the dude already came with baggae. Like I said, Karma is a biatch. For him and the administration for the hire in the first place.

Oh well.

Yes. And the poster was talking about the previous coach, not Lallathin.

For whatever reason, Scott lost his way at X. He di not evolve with the way the game is being played. Good players from families that had long sent kids to X were running away from Scott. Talent was not there and was not coming.

Are you really that naive? Scott is still one of the best coaches in the city and the success at Summit has shown that. His only problem, other than misguided oblivious parents at X who thought their kids were better than they were, is that he wasnt going to recruit. Period.

Heck, ole Lallathin got in trouble for recruiting twice within his first month there. And the biggest recruiters in the city, Moe, was one of the schools that turned him in. The irony in that.

Biggest recruiters in the city? They are the best, but no where near the biggest. They compete with every school district in the tri-state for students. Some offer free tuition subsidized by private/parochial school families, some offer excellent extracurriculars including sports, clubs, music etc. If a school wants to put up a billboard and pay for it, so what. Some schools have enough students to field 300 basketball teams and still suck having won only one league game in 4 years.

You're a sad person, Jeff...you've been at this shtick for almost twenty years.

I've also noticed you're even worse received on bucknuts then you are here.
