Penguins won't turn down a White House Invite

As I mentioned in another thread they are about 1/3 Americans but seem to have their priorities in line. There is one Russian (Malkin) I'd advised Trump and Sessions not to talk to them. Everything doesn't have to be political.

“The Pittsburgh Penguins would never turn down a visit to the White House and, if invited, we would go as a team,” David Morehouse, the team’s CEO and president, said in a statement to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday.

Although Penguins owner Ron Burkle has been a Democratic donor and Morehouse worked for the Clinton Administration and for Al Gore during his 2000 presidential campaign, Morehouse added that celebrating at the White House has little to do with its occupant.

“We respect the office of the presidency of the United States and what it stands for,” he said. “Any opposition or disagreement with a president’s policies, or agenda, can be expressed in other ways.”

I wonder how much interest it holds for the 70% or so of the players not from the U.S.

Do they invite the NHL champ to the White House? What's the line here for inviting obscure sports champions. Does the MLS winner get an invite? Major League Lacrosse champ?

Walking tours of foreign capitals and buildings are popular. Be a kick to meet the Queen or some such. I don't think interest would be far-fetched. Most foreign counties, their news seems nearly obsessed with the US, don't know about Russia though.

Pens went last year. Hockey is one of the 4 major Professional sports in North America, hardly obscure. If Cincinnati or Cleveland had a team I'm pretty certain you would care. They had 400-500 thousand people at a parade in Pittsburgh today.

Questionable.

I live in Columbus most of the year and could not care less about the NHL like the rest of the city/country/world.

Hockey is hardly "obscure", that's as bad as calling Curry Kerr 2.0.

The NHL is much closer to the MLS than any of the major 3 leagues in terms of popularity in the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_...anada#Revenues

Yet, it's not "obscure", which of course was the dumb part of your comment.

I'd definitely consider the MLS obscure. NHL is more popular but not by much(in this country.) So maybe it's the line, not sure.

According to the chart you linked, the NHL is >6x more popular in terms of revenue than the MLS and has about 3/4ths the revenue of the NBA. Dumb.

I was just looking at US TV revenue as a measure of popularity in this country. Where NHL is much closer to MLS than big 3. I think the overall revenue figures include revenue outside the US. But could be wrong.

Half the league is in Canada and they still have 6x the tv revenue of MLS. Glad we established it's not obscure.

Bad new argument. Trump's invited a parade of third world country leaders to the Oval Office.
