Week Five OATCC poll

Let's see. Mason is ahead of Hudson who lost to St. Ignatius without their top runner. Mason ran in Indiana and got 3rd at the Culver meet.

These don't make any sense. Explain how Kings, Kenston, Defiance, and Perrysburg keep getting ranked.

Kenston and Perrysburg both got beat by unranked teams at Strongsville and

Kings lost to UA last week at Cedarville.

Defiance has hardly raced enough for the coaches to get a good grasp on how good or bad they really are.

I think the voters just go on milesplit, look at times and don't bother to look how these schools are placing in their meets.

I haven’t studied Defiance, Kings or Perrysburg....But this is my take on Kenston. Their coach won’t get on here but I will speak on his behalf.

Kenston 3rd at the Ohsaa Meet, lost to Davidson and Ashland two top six teams

Ran JV’s at Cleveland Running Meet

Won at their meet beat #8 Jackson and Solon

Boardman finished 5th lost to #1 Hudson , a good team from PA, #8 Jackson and D2 #2 Bay. And they beat Solon...

Strongsville 4th at Strongsville lost to #2 Hudson,#4 St. Ignatius ,and unranked Solon but they are 2-1 against Solon,

So if you look at their results they probably deserve to be in the top 20

Kings not as good a resume as Kenston. But they ran a very tough schedule...and they never falter

Ohsaa 5th
Lakota East lost to Elder not good
DeWine lost to Thomas Worthington also not good
Tiffin 7th okay I guess
Cedarville lost two Mason things are looking up
Saturday Night Lights 6th

Very very respectable season.

Defiance is keeping it low key...they probably don’t care about rankings ...they want to still be raving in November...

Defiance can justify the ranking if Bryce Mendenhall (ran 16:04 last year) starts racing. He has not raced yet this year and I don't know if he is hurt or just not running. With out him they currently will struggle at #5 and will lose lots of points to other teams at #3.

Perrysburg graduated top 4 from last year so not as strong up front as last year but still has a nice solid group of runners. I agree they right now don't look like a top 20 team but have a very good chance to make it to state as they look like 2nd or 3rd best team in NW.

I would expect Lakota East to lose to Elder. East does not have a particularly strong team this year.

As a Mason fan, I’m not sure why the Comets are ranked so high. They have a lot of good runners, and they run well in a pack, but they don’t have any exceptional runners this year.

Mason

-lost to St. X at the Moeller Twilight.

-ran fast times at DeWine and Culver which both are fast courses historically.

-Biggest plus they have a solid 4-7 runners well under 17:00
-Minus- they have no stud that will be top 10 at regional or top 30 at state
*historically they get it done when it counts. Voters like safe historical picks.

So, In D2 Boys, It looks like 4 teams IMO. Shelby, Bay, Woodridge and $V$M. I'm not convinced Unioto can hang with those 4, but they might on a real good day. After that, Lexington and Sheridan have not shown a lot, but from what they have back from last year, they still could pull it together.

Woodridge has been steadily improving it's taken very highly ranked D1 teams to beat them. Bay has not faltered and it's hard to tell if Woodridge has bridged the gap from Boardman. Shelby is just so solid and it's really theirs to lose at this point, but Woodridge and Bay could go an win it. $V$M is just hanging around waiting to pounce.

I think itís Shelbyís thing to lose. I think Woodridge could make some noise and is the only other team to be considered at #1. Bay and Akron SVSM seem to be 3 and 4 like you said. Sheridan, Unioto, Madeira, Heath, Jonathan Alder, and Tippecanoe probably round out the Top 10. I think D2 is a lot better than it has been in recent years will produce a lot of interesting races. Especially in the front pack. In terms of individuals, I think thereís a group of 6-8 that could win it.

The more I look at it, the more Shelby, Bay and Woodridge look equal. They are all built nearly the same. Depth maybe a factor for Shelby, but healthy, they look just like the other two teams.
