Tallmadge and Highland were co-champs for the league title last year, and it seems the two would be at the top of the league again this year. Revere, Aurora and Copley will be better and can win any game. Copley and Kent may struggle again this year.

Tallmadge returns both starting pitchers who will be juniors, two catchers (1 Suburban League 2nd team) who will be sophomores and two junior outfielders (1 Suburban League 1st team) and a senior infielder from last years team. All played good summer ball so they should be better than last year. Tallmadge lost their SS, 1B, DP and RF to graduation. They were about 40% of the OBP and RBI offense last year. Tallmadge will add power and speed to the line up this year, so it is feasible that they don't see an offensive drop off from last year, and could possibly improve over last year. HS Softball is all about pitching so I think that gives a slight edge to Tallmadge, whose pitchers were 20-5 and #1 and #4 in ERA in the league last year as sophomores. Tallmadge was knocked out in the District Championship game last year by Hoban. With Hoban now gone from the grueling Akron District and moved up to D1, and with the Tallmadge boys winning it all, Tallmadge girls may have the motivation to make a hard run this year.

Highland will have a nice stable of senior pitchers and a sophomore. They lost about the same as Tallmadge, but also have some younger players and returning players who will fill in nicely. They have a nice 1B/P returning after earning League 1st team as a freshman. Highland is a mature group and may have a little swagger to their game. They can't like it that they beat Tallmadge twice, but had to share the league title with them due to losses to Aurora and Revere. The Tallmadge/Highland games will be great to watch.

Revere was the surprise team in the league who is showing great improvement under new coaches. Their run to the Regional Tournament will have to be a boost to morale and make practices more meaningful this winter and early spring. They will be led in the circle by a senior commit to ONU. Any game against Revere can't really be considered a trap game anymore because they will be in almost every game. Look for Revere to upset a team or two this year. Tallmadge, Highland and Aurora better come ready to play.

Aurora knocked off Highland last year and split with the Hornets, two losses to Tallmadge and one to Revere knocked them out of contention. Not sure what they lost but they have some returning talent that should make them a contender again.

Barberton played everyone tough last year and may do so again this year. They have some older players and some power hitting. It will come down to their pitching and defense. Nobody will be able to take Barberton lightly this year, which was a mistake if they did last year. Look for them to battle most games and surprise a team or two early in the season.

Copley and Kent Roosevelt will likely have a tough season again unless they have a surprise young player make their debut this season. The league just doesn't give you a day off and that can really affect the morale of a team struggling to compete every day.

Sounds like the SLA should be one of the toughest leagues around this year.

Tallmadge won their last state championship 20 years ago. They've never won one at Firestone Stadium. I would be interesting to see how large of a crowd they could get for a championship over there.

Highland went 3-3 in Nashville. Lost first 3, then won the next 3. I heard the competition down there was really good.

Barberton 0-1 in Myrtle Beach, have 5 more to play this week. Had 4 hits, got K'd 10 times. So hard to know the level of competition. Keyser HS (WV), the team BHS played, is 8-1.
