Top girls program in the state

What are some good girls basketball teams?

In Columbus, DI, Pick Central and Westerville South are good
In Columbus, DII, Eastmoor Academy should be primed to make it to the final four.
In Columbus in DIII, its Africentric, all the way
In Columbus in DIV, your guess is as good as mine

Mason & Canton McKinley are two strong DIs. Toledo Rogers with Zia Cooke returning for her senior year is probably the favorite to repeat in DII.

In D4, look out for Fairfield Christian this year. Pretty much everyone back from a run to the elite 8 last year.

Mount Norte Dame usually pretty good. Not sure about this season though what they will look like.

MND loaded

MND is loaded and likely the top team in SW Ohio, with the best freshman in the state in KK Bransford added to a roster that returns 4 starters from last year and 3 from the 2017 state champ roster. Each starter has a D1 offer and/or is committed to D1. They have the best shot blocker in the state in senior forward Julia Hoefling and the top 3 point shooter in the city in Gabby Marshall. They stay healthy, they can win it all.

Wow look at all the best in state claims... why would any of the rest of us even bother trying to compete? Let's just hand them the state title now *eyeroll*

Well MCGal they are indeed loaded with talent 1-8 and one of the best coaches in the state. So if there is a poll of the top 10-15 teams throughout the state, most would have MND at the top. It is what is

Not saying they aren't loaded or deserving of mention here... they clearly are...just calling out the "best in the state" labels being thrown around.

That's what I said, when Labron was a player. Such a silly claim. One poster declared one player "best in state" in ONE category and claimed a best in state freshman. Oh no.

Lighten up a bit huh? No one is stealing thunder.

Toledo Rogers should still be in the hunt. Their coach Lamar Smith is legit. He coached lower levels that fed the good Start teams about ten years ago, before he got his opportunity at Rogers. I think he'll keep that program competitive.

Ottoville has 4-5 letterwomen, plus sisters of other good players coming up, plus they have some size in Frosh/Soph classes. Should make a run to at least regionals, I hope. Hoerstens, Honigfords, Knippens, Schlagbaum, Hanneman, Wannemachers, Gambles, plus a few more.

I think the best team overall could very well be Fenwick. Led by senior Brooklyn Brunner, this team is poised to make a run at the title. She's only 5'2, but for a small girl she has huge heart. Transferred from Alter into Fenwick her junior year and she's been electric ever since. Top notch ball-handling

MND is an even better team than when they won state a couple of years back. I think West will struggle this year- Prohaska was special and drove that team

MND is the SWO pre-season #1 team followed by Mason. Everyone talks about Marshall, who is headed to Iowa, but MND has 5 D1 players on their roster. I can't imagine a deeper team in Ohio.

You better start considering Walnut on this list. They just played MND to a dead draw, and I heard they beat up on McAuley pretty good the other day. From what I saw they are legit.

Federal League Predictions.

Who should be the Top teams. Obviously McKinley has the Best Player.

Hoover returns a lot and has some good young players

Glen Oaks always seem to be close to the top.

Those are my top 3.

Good Luck All!!!

GlenOak has the most coming back by a significant margin with Green moving in and if Smith is mobile/healthy which she was during soccer, McK will be the main competition with Bell obviously and a solid supporting cast, Hoover is a winning program and tradition/knowing how to win matters, Lake and Perry will be improved, Green could be dangerous if the big girl comes back anywhere near where she was playing when she got hurt, Jackson is hurting after losing 8 of their top 10 I believe but still have skilled kids and they play hard together.

I just watched Ottoville play Saturday. They are a very solid team. They started 4 seniors and a sophomore. Knippen had 10 in the first quarter was held to 18 for the game. Very fundamentally strong - typical of an Ottoville team. Good shooters. What was surprising though is they didn't have enough girls to play a full JV game and only played 2 quarters.

Hoover looked really strong against West Holmes. Hoover plays Hiland tonight. I saw Hiland got beat by 20 their first game. I know Hiland is a lot smaller school then Hoover. Hoover should do pretty good tonight.

Good Luck All.

Hiland played a very good team at JTTT and heard their big girl didn’t play. West Holmes isn’t great but the margin and scoring by Hoover was impressive.

Ottoville has a couple injured jv players who should be back soon to play 4 qrts.

West Holmes has been down in talent and had injury problems the last few years, so the Hover VS WH matchup really showed nothing about the Vikings. And MCGAL make a good point about the Hawks first game.
I believe Hiland won by 20 last night? So should Hoover really be mentioned on this topic?

In fairness to Hoover also heard their point guard has been out with a broken finger... didn't want to provide one-sided injury updates
