Middletown Madison

I watched them last year in the playoffs against state champions Wheelersburg and came away impressed. What do they bring to the table this coming season?

Barring any injuries, transfers, etc. This team will be stacked as nearly the entire team returns. Should be a solid bunch that gets another run going in November.

On paper the Mohawks should be better next year. They lost 3 lineman (Wilson,Ward,Watts), the split end (Davis) who is also the backup qb, and their 2nd best rb (Baumgartner) who also started at corner for them. Wilson also played a lot at lb as well. The biggest concern is losing 3 lineman but they have some capable backups. They return what I think will be the 2 best dlineman in the conference in 240lb Pelgen (18 sacks) and 260lb (Evans). Both may/should be getting d1 attention. Throw in a 6'6 Mcmonigle and the horse Limon and that dline is scary good. Then you have the SWBL POY in Bam Bam Svarda who broke the schools rushing record last yr who also doubles as a hybrid lb/db. Kid is stud and is the heart and soul of the team. The QB/S (Whiteman) is the leader and rb/lb Crim will be a bruiser. On paper they look like a state title contender and barring injuries I expect them to be just that.

Madison will be loaded next season and the expectations will be high. I think the biggest thing for them will be dealing with these expectations. They won't be a Cinderella story this time around. They have a good test against Franklin early on, do they still have Valley View? They have Monroe week 8. I don't see anyone on the Buckeye side giving them a test. I think a thing they will need to develop is a passing game of some sort, just something to keep the defense honest. I do think 10-0 is a possibility and I think they have a legitimate shot at going to Canton.

I saw Madison as being at Valley View in the 3rd week ( 9/07 ). Madison has it listed, VV has it as an open date but home. ( Makes sense based on the past ).

As a Wheelersburg fan, the front four from Madison was very impressive. The combination of physicality and quickness they posses as a whole was unmatched compared to Wheelersburg's other opponents. Looking at what they have returning, they should most definitely compete for a chance to go to Canton, and will be a load for anyone in D5.

Madison has come along way in a short time. They will have a recharged Milton-Union to deal with along with Carlisle. Valley View and Franklin will be tough. I'm impressed with the Madison program. Could be the next Valley View from the SWBL.
