They return many of their starters from their regional semi team. Should have included them on the list. They and Mason will likely be 1-2.

I would guess Beavercreek and Carroll will be the Dayton-area favorites in D-I. Not sure exactly how much Springboro, Centerville, Troy, etc. have returning.

Sycamore won the GMC last year and they return most of that squad so they might be a slight favorite over Mason and LW in the GMC. St X should also be in the mix among the top teams in the city as well.

What squads did Sycamore send to the Yellow Springs preseason tournament a couple of weeks ago? JVA, JVB & Frosh? Couldn't have been their true varsity even though they were in the varsity bracket because they didn't do well at all.

I can't answer that question but I wouldn't use preseason scrimmages as much of a barometer at least this early in the preseason. I know they've got a few kids participating at the club Nationals in Dallas this week. They will be fielding a good team this fall if all their eligible kids return.

Not using it as a barometer. Just wanting to know who was there in YS a couple of weeks ago. They all looked younger and as I said, they didn't do very well against smaller D2 & D3 teams. Thought you might have some insight as to who they might have sent.

Sycamore has lots of talent returning and did win the GMC despite Mason being undefeated. However, hard to bet on Sycamore because of their inconsistency year after year. They will be top 10 but I would bet on Lakota West, Mason and even lakota East before I bet on Sycamore.

I like your thinking but based on what I know and have seen they've got talent, so I'm pretty sure they'll be in the running. It should be a competitive GMC again this season.

Beavercreek will be the team to beat in SW Ohio. Early season match up @ Sycamore will be a good test.

Saw that Anderson beat Lakota East 4-1 tonight. Still early but impressive result.

I hope you're right about the Comets, but they lost a lot, and Sycamore, East, West, Fairfield, etc., should be pretty strong.

Regarding Moeller, I know they have Lonneman and Grogan back - anyone else show promise?

Moeller was very young last year. Most of their varsity players will have experience from last year. Other than Lonneman no real studs but quite a bit of talent to like. They open with Mason this year so we'll have a good idea early on what they are made of.

I heard Summit lost every scrimmage so far. Lost this Saturday to a school from Indiana. Is this going to be a "rebuilding year" for them?

Does that mean they will only win state by 4 or 5 goals this year?

Summit will be fine and so will all of the teams who have had players at Nationals. Some coaches are giving/mandating players take a minimum of a full week off. Other coaches (who constantly under achieve) are making players who have had no break come and go through two a days.

I'm impressed, soccerlogic. This is a new one for you. I thought you might go with a line like no D3 team in the state lost more than us (which would be true). The remaining players, however (and as you know), are an overwhelming favorite to win state again. As noted above, it probably won't be a 9-0 state championship game this year, and I don't expect a run like last season where no tournament game is closer than six goals. I could see another run where no tournament opponent scores. Enjoy the season.

For those Summit fans who are reading here, I'll note that I very much appreciate how the team plays. The players are excellent competitors in addition to being highly skilled athletes. I also tip my hat to the coaches (are you one of them, soccerlogic?), who have contributed to the outstanding all-around play of the boys.

I will be interested to see how Dayton Carroll does this year against tougher D1 competition in the tournament. I saw them in preseason (I know! its early!) but they looked pretty big sizewise. I'd pick Anderson as my #1 though in D1.
