Interesting changes from two close by districts:

Stow DII District:

Staying in DII:
#2 Woodridge
#5 Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy
#6 Streetsboro
#7 Orange
#9 Revere
#10 Chagrin Falls
#12 Ravenna

Moving to DI:
#1 Benedictine
#3 Cleveland Central Catholic
#4 East Technical
#11 University School

Moving to DIII:
#8 Crestwood

Canton DII District:

Staying in DII:
#1 St Vincent-St Mary
#2 Buchtel
#3 Alliance
#4 Coventry
#5 Kenmore
#6 Tallmadge
#7 Norton
#8 Northwest
#9 Marlington
#10 Canton South
#11 Field

Moving to DI:
None

Moving to DIII:
None

I'm guessing that although the Canton District is all coming back next year, they are going to have to move some pieces around to even out the districts. The issues with Stow not being a central location should disappear as most of the Cleveland area schools are gone. Maybe move Tallmadge, Field, and StV to the Stow district?

I was thinking that it's kind of funny how that worked out.

But keep in mind that VASJ, Warrensville, Horizen, Gilmour Academy and Lutheran West all move up into this division. Wont those schools end up in the Stow district, in which case, North Canton stays the same?

How many of those are westside schools? I'm guessing North Ridgeville would be closer for those that are on that side of Cleveland. There might be some shuffling of district locations between DI, DII, and DIII.

Horizon is located just east of downtown Cleveland I believe, so the only true westside school from that list would be Lutheran West. The others--Gilmour, VASJ, and Warrensville--are all indisputably eastside schools, and all played at the Garfield Heights DIII district.

I mean, dont get me wrong, id love for SVSM to be diverted to Stow district. That prospect just sounds a little too good to be true.

You also have schools like Lake Catholic, NDCL and others on the Eastside. I can see VASJ end up in that District as well. They used to play their District out East awhile back.

Yappi will become famous soon enough
Just depends. They will take the 10th-12th grade enrollment of the new school in the Fall and assign them into their division at that time.

I'm guessing that although the Canton District is all coming back next year, they are going to have to move some pieces around to even out the districts. The issues with Stow not being a central location should disappear as most of the Cleveland area schools are gone. Maybe move Tallmadge, Field, and StV to the Stow district?
Kenmore-Garfield will be Div. I

St V staying in d2 with competitive balance is amazing, but I agree a move to Stow makes sense. But the Northeast board deals in laziness and not logic, so it's not a sure thing

I believe Louisville is moving back to d2 so they're a natural replacement in Canton. Tallmadge absolutely should be back at Stow also.

It looks like Trotwood Madison just missed being D1. Bummer for the other D2 fans...TM has to be one of the early favorites in D2. They want to avenge last year's shocking exit.

OHSAA should do the right thing here and move ASVSM to D1.

Nah OHSAA just made D3 awful and made D2 loaded. I wish ohsaa would stop messing around with the divisions. Why should the two IT programs be D2. Akron SVSM should be D2 and Cleveland VASJ should be D3

Would be even better if they took their talents to D1.

You know, I really wouldn't have minded had they done that. I am in favor of using some other metric (in place of or in addition to enrollment). But I can understand OHSAA taking the path of least resistance by basing the divisions on enrollment. Still, strength of schedule always seemed to me to be significant. And the Irish do play a D1 schedule. In fact, I think they played (and beat!) 3-4 of the final 8 D1 schools in last year's regular season. Year in, year out, I think they would do just fine in D1. On the other hand, I think D2 has gotten much deeper than last year; where it was basically Trotwood as the clear favorite, with the Irish (and, to a lesser extent, Dunbar) seemingly the only team with a legitimate chance at them in the playoffs. So I am looking forward to a more hotly contested D2 playoffs for all concerned next year!

In a sport like basketball with five players are on the court at one time and a team only needs a few more to fill out their bench, school enrollment is almost meaningless. Competitive balance takes a step towards rectifying this, but it's imperfect. Perhaps the OHSAA could create an "open" division in which all of the top basketball schools, regardless of size, could opt into competing. Maybe brand it as being the most prestigious division and thus hopefully attract schools into playing up for the bragging rights. Would likely generate a ton of fan interest as well.

I don't think you cannot mention Wauseon in with these schools as well. They had a very good season and were in the SVSM game until the fourth quarter when I think they ran out of gas. Just my opinion.

Wauseon will also be a team to look out for agin this year, with only losing 1 starter.

Definitely. Basketball is the one sport that enrollment means almost nothing. One great players makes a team very good. Throw in the AAU vagabonds that can fill out a team and you can have a state champion appear out of nowhere if things fall together just right.

Absolutely! I actually was talking perception as much as reality about last year's playoffs. Heading into them, the general thought was maybe STVM or Dunbar could give the Rams a game. Otherwise, it was Trotwood's title to lose.

But I agree with you about Wauseon. They played a tremendous game in the final. And that young man in the middle is a stud! It'll be fun to watch him play this year.

Don't forget about Eastmoor Academy! A bad shooting night and they can easily be the state champs. They have a boat load coming back and have a big chip on their shoulders. I got to check them out this summer in Athens! They are long and athletic with quick little guards. Keep in eye on the Columbus EA Warriors!

Trotwood lost a ton though. Amir, Torrey, and Myles were there top three scorers.
