Apparently CRC is taking suggestions on what type of recreation to put in its place...my guess is that those suggestions would need to be cheap suggestions.

They're talking frisbee golf, walking paths, kids play areas (relatively cheap and maintenance free).

They already have a playground there if I recall. Mind as well just make it a walking path. Replacing a golf course with a frisbee golf course doesn't really make a lot of sense.

I suggested a frisbee course surrounded by a nice bike path. Or how about a mini Pit for all the grade school FB teams to play in.

Has anyone noticed, Patricks on Crookshant is now Tom & Jerry's. I don't think I will be going in there. I don't mind a barroom brawl from time to time, but given the name, there is a good chance someone is going to get an anvil dropped on them, get blown up by an exploding cigar or get smashed by a giant sledgehammer.

Did I say I was going to keep my opinions to myself? You said "how about" I assumed you wanted people's opinions on the idea.

It's an awful idea, IMO, because it would be a waste of money. Most schools already have fields on their campus to play on. Those who don't already have somewhere else to play. Plus these kids already get the chance to play at the real Pit at the end of the year, do they not? Besides, why limit the old golf course (something for everyone) to only grade school kids who play football?

If you would've said that right off the bat, it would not have been an issue with me.

Sure it does. The reason they are closing the golf course is the maintenance cost. The maintenance cost for a frisbee golf course would be a lot lower than maintaining a golf course. Not to mention you don't need employees there to take money etc.......

I don't think the area is big enough to put in a good bike trail though, if it was I would love that idea.

Not nearly as much as I would like to. Not enough places to safely bike on the westside. Miami Whitewater is nice but not really long enough. I love the Loveland Bike Trail, try to get out there at least once a summer to spend a day, but obviously it's not very convienent for us west siders. We really need a good bike trail on the westside, Dunham just isn't big enough (unless you don't mind riding in circles all day).

Agreed completely. It would be very, very nice to have on here on the Westside. That is definitely something I would like to try to bring to the Westside.

They have great Burgers and I love the wings. It's a good bar to get lunch.

On the bicycle topic, has anyone used the bike racks on Queen City Metro's (or whatever the bus company is called these days) buses? Do they charge you to transport a bike? Are all their buses equipped with bike racks or do you have to find one on the schedule? I've often thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to put my bike on the bus on a Saturday or Sunday morning and just bike the streets of downtown Cincinnati. There isn't as much traffic down there on weekends. I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience using the bike racks on the buses to get around the city. Thanks.

Living in Clifton now, I see lots of Metros. More often than not, you have to find one that has the bike rack. But I don't know if they charge.

Kind of bummed about then closing the golf course. As bad as I am I could still go over there every once in a while and not take too long to play. There weren't too many people out there (which probably explains why they're closing) so I could usually play a couple balls on each hole.

They do have a huge pool and a big play area over there and have taken out a couple of the baseball fields.

I think for the most part they were looking at routes people who work downtown could take to get to work. I see two problems with that, 1) no showers at work and 2) the ride back home has some huge hills to climb.

There are some proposed routes along the river on the westside that I think would eventually hook up with the Loveland bike trail...............if all goes as planned. Again, not holding my breath

The water park is not that old but looks as if its 50 years old with trash everywhere on a summer day. Not that appealing to me!

As to bike trails, the best route would have been the old RR right of way along Queen City and Glenway before they decided to put up a bunch of now vacant commerical buildings on it instead. It could have run from downtown to Harrison at a relatively nice even grade. What a wasted opportunity.
