The Bombers return to PBS for the 5th time in their storied history.

The first visit was in 2001, a 6-0 victory over QB Mike Daniels and his Princeton Vikings in a 2nd round doubleheader in front of 47,000+ spectators

Then in 2005, a second round 12-9 overtime instant classic win over Colerain capped by a Brad Scherer to a wide open Darius Ashley in the Bengal striped corner of the endzone en route to their first state title.

A 2007 second round 31-6 route of the Centerville Elk highlighted by a Dan Milligan 1 handed leaping reach behind him pass reception as the Bombers made their way toward a 2nd state title

In 2008 X recorded a 15-10 week 2 win over Alabama’s Pratville in the Herbstreit Classic.

In the 4 victories at PBS (all attended by the renowned ReLoad) the Specht Bomber defenses allowed a total of 25 points (a TD and 6 FGs)

Less than 3 months ago the incomparable Larry Cox “stepped down” due to “philosophical differences” after 21 years at the Thunderbird helm.

https://www.wcpo.com/sports/high-sch...ter-21-seasons

Last season the Birds finished 2-8 failing to make the D1 playoffs for the 3rd year in a row.

Cox finishes his illustrious career with a 114-103 record.

The Thunderbirds will be led by interim lame duck head coach and long-time assistant Jeff Wadl (at least in the opener and possibly the season)

Steve Specht (130-47) enters his 15th season as the Bombers head coach.

He is 12 wins short of tying Tom Ballaban as the 2nd all time StX winningest football coach.

Coach Specht is aiming for his 10th GCL title and 4th state championship

Lakota West returns 5 starters on offense and 6 starters on defense

Key Losses: LB Xavier Peters (Florida State), QB MyJaden Horton (transfer to LaSalle), OL Tyler Bentley (Pittsburgh), QB Malik Verdon (transfer to Moeller)

Key Returners: Senior DE Purdue commit Steven Facheaux 6’4” 272lb (4 star recruit), Junior RB David Afari (leading rusher in GMC with 1,109 yards and 5.9 yards per carry), Junior LB Landon Rosier (team's 2nd leading tackler), Junior LB David Jones (team's 3rd leading tackler) and Senior CB Jeremiah Ross

Outlook: Started 6 sophomores last year including the GMC leading rusher and a couple of solid LBs. Should be able to effectively run the ball and stop the ball but with the transfer of their top 2 QBs who will be under center?

Hard to believe this is only the second time X and West have played. There's a 6'8" guy on the o-line playing guard???

The big man moves pretty well for his size.
He started camp at tackle but about 2 weeks ago he and Mohn swapped spots on the right side.

Per Mike Dyer 8/15 9:36am (who took it from my post on 8/11)
St. Xavier won't name a starting quarterback for its season opener Aug. 24 against Lakota West Firebirds at Paul Brown Stadium.
That's because the Bombers intend to play two quarterbacks including senior Jared Kreimer and junior Wyatt Hudepohl, according to St. X coach Steve Specht.
St. X, a Division I regional finalist in 2017, has nine consecutive postseason appearances - the most actively of any large school program in Cincinnati.

Expect the Bombers to be run heavy in the opener as the passing game continues to come around.
Kreimer and Clifford, a pair of sub 4.5 burners on sweeps, Kreimer and Hudepohl (who has some wheels too) on direct snaps, the one-two punch of Payne and Newman both as single backs and multi-back sets.
Should be a lot of fun running behind Johnson, Kirby, Fleming, Nurre and Mohn into the teeth (Facheaux, Jones and Rosier) of the West defense.

As Hudepohl finally hangs up the baseball cleats for awhile and settles in under center he will have a solid WR corps with the speed and athleticism of Kreimer and Clifford, the size and hands of Lang and Moeller and the shiftiness of McIntyre.

Wasn't that throw from running back Cionni not from QB Scherer? I was a teenager at the time so my memory may be off, but I seem to remember that being halfback throwback pass.

Bombers roll in this one 28-6

I noticed a bunch of Elder posters in your forum predicting another stellar freshman team for the Panthers.......pantherboy06, Nelson Van Alden, Jay Bilas, Dale Cooper, Frank Underwood and Descartes.
6 different posters can't be wrong.
Oh wait.....
