Yep, you and Auggie are on top of it. The high pressure system over Ohio (thanks Ohio) is expected to steer the storm to the west.

My wife's family is in Fort Lauderdale. We were scheduled to be down there for Disney World this weekend. Instead, it's wait-n-see what's going on.

Her father's staying in Fort Lauderdale, but the rest of her family is headed to Orlando to wait it out. Meanwhile, we're deciding which way and how soon after it we can get to Orlando. When it was tracking east, the plan was to go west and then travel south into Florida after it passed into Georgia/South Carolina. Now, it's aiming straight up the gut through the everglades, and right through Orlando. Currently projecting 80-90mph winds in Orlando on Sunday and Monday.

It keeps moving west to the point now Fort Myers is almost looking like it's target.

FWIW, Disney et al planned to open back up Tuesday, but that was as of a few days ago. I don't imagine the parks will be back to normal in the immediate. One brother lives in Ocala and is still deciding whether to trek up here...

It's projected to clear Orlando by early afternoon Monday. Disney plans to reopen on Tuesday. As my wife said, they're their own city with power, water, and the manpower to reopen almost immediately. This is not their first hurricane.

Hopefully they have enough employees that stuck around.

I used to own a condo in Tampa in the Hyde Park area just a block off the Hillsborough Bay near Davis Island and I can't imagine how bad it might get there.

I just heard on Fox that DMORT is being dispatched to the Keys. That is DMORT not DMAT. Very bad sign as DMORT is the mortuary emergency service whereas DMAT is medical. That means fatalities.

Looks like it took a jog to the East a little more than any of the projections expected. Still looks like it is going to go up the West Coast of Florida...

Anyone that chose to stay in the Keys is really playing the lottery with their life. Moronic.

Seems most of the damage was in the Keys, not seeing much on the TV about that because those dopey reporters were so fixated about the cities on the gulf coast.

Bad enough to be forced out of your house but when the whole house just ups and moves....

Hope they are well. Soft spot since living down there and diving around them. They like belly-rubs, though you're not supposed to. One was nibbling the ski rope, we pulled it in and it came along. Someone got to rubbing its belly and it rolled on back with it's flippers just flapping away.

6 dead at South Florida nursing home as state grapples with heat and outages after Irma

Quote:
Police opened a criminal investigation Wednesday into the deaths of at least six people at a South Florida nursing home that apparently was without air conditioning amid ongoing power outages from Hurricane Irma, according to local officials.

Three people died at the facility in Hollywood, Fla., and three others were pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, said officials in the city between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Authorities evacuated more than 100 other people from the facility, the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, including bringing some to nearby hospitals.

The guy I know that lives in Florida says it is the week after land fall, not the actual event, where the real misery starts. September is still hot, it is currently 90 degrees in Tampa with a dew point of 69 degrees, and there is water everywhere so the humidity is unbearable; with no electricity there is no AC which is basically like no heat in January up north. Additionally there is no way to keep food stored let alone be able to cook it, also no water as the pumping stations are all down. Most smart folks have generators but like idiots they do not store enough gas and you cannot go out an buy more because those pumps are down too. Then there are the looters who work all the chumps who left town and have no way of protecting their possessions they left behind.

Also the obligatory celebrity benefit was recently held, no Kanye type lunacy but it looks like Halloween came early with Cher and Babs sporting some no wrinkle masks in the front row of the call center>
