Steiner runs a 23.23

Abby Steiner ran a 23.23 in the 200 dash tonight. Unfortunately no wind gauge. We will have one of Saturday. Hoping for good weather. You can see the flag showing the (lack of)2i d. Sorry for the crappy video quality, but I was busy with hurdle moving and other hosting the meet duties.

Impressive run. Absolute shame there's no wind gauge as statistically-speaking, it's only a bit better than a hand-timed effort. No reflection on April or any other runner. Strictly a matter of statistics (a cold subject, I agree!)

What I enjoy most is how smooth and open her stride is. Very impressive to see on a HS athlete. Most sprinters don't learn that so young. Very impressive

She has worked really hard on technique and strength. (And since the ACL year, on injury prevention.) And she is a genuine student of her events.

Nice...I figure she can run 11.30-11.35 with competition motivating her.

She's amazing to watch! Amazing how much faster girls are getting.
Equally amazing that mathking is still filming things without turning his camera the right way

Very nice. I think she gets close or under 23 if she runs at nationals with some competition pushing her.

Abby ran a 23.17 (and an 11.47) in the prelims tonight. Both wind legal.

As soon as she ran I looked up at those flags not a one was fluttering.in the 100 she got a good but not great start. But, her drive phase separated her from the field with The quickness. Well done.

22.73 for Steiner in the final. Chandler ran a 23.24 for second place.

Wow...very fast. I thought it would take running at nationals to bring out the motivation to run that fast, but I stand corrected! Outstanding time...Steiner moves to the top 10 all-time nationally!

She looked either hurt or gassed after the 4x100 (she brought them from well back to win).

Chandler is why she ran so fast. I will post video later but you can see she did not bait run away from Chandler. 23.24 is blazing fast. Faster than the state record was before Friday.

How do her times compare to the national scene?

What school will she be attending?

Her time yesterday made her the second fastest in the country. She is going to the University of Kentucky.

As I stated earlier, Ms. Steiner's 22.73 ranks her in the top 10 all-time nationally, and #2 this year.

I'm curious to see who else UK track & field has coming in. With Sydney McLaughlin there already, they should have some outstanding sprint relay teams. McLaughlin is 19 and already runs 52ish in the 400 hurdles. She has outstanding range as a sprinter/hurdler. Other than the hurdling aspect, she reminds me a lot of Allison Felix.

Steiner is also committed to UK for soccer. She's a good player but has more upside in track. I'm wondering if she will stay with soccer. Collegiate soccer coaches are notoriously fickle and the sport has a high rate of attrition. A very large number of players don't enjoy it. Whatever she decides, good luck to her.
Ms. McLaughlin is 18, not 19. She's a LEO. As far as her talents go, I would put Sydney more in the mold of the next Irena Szewinska, the legendary Polish sprinter/jumper/hurdler. Szewiska holds the all-time record for the most number of world ranking points, 342. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irena_Szewi%C5%84ska

Nobody has a record as impressive as Szewinska as an all-around track & field athlete. Hands-down the best all-time. Ms. McLaughlin has the talent...will be interesting to see where her career goes.

With regard to Ms. Steiner, she should pursue whatever her passion is. She's the one she has to please the most.

That time would have advanced her to the semifinals of the 2016 Olympics.

I know a lot of collegiate soccer coaches have difficult personalities. The game becomes drudgery for some. I hope it works out for Steiner. My comments are what they are and insinuate nothing. Nothing more and nothing less.

Slay me for the inaccurate description of McLaughlin, BTW.
I didn't infer that you were stating such.

Please, letís not have a thread about the magnificence of Steiner devolve into a pissing match.

It was incredibly fun to watch her this weekend. I count myself fortunate to have witnessed her performances over the past four years. Best of luck to Steiner as she continues her career.

Right before she ran the 200, I yelled, "RUN A 22 ABBY!" The people around me looked at me like I was crazy.

After her 200, they all looked at me again. I saw it coming. Not from Dublin, but she was fun to watch in high school. I wish her nothing but the best at Kentucky!

Abby has gotten off to a good start to her soccer career at Kentucky. She has played every minute of every game, primarily in the midfield, and has recorded two assists while UK has gotten off to a 3-0 start. That 3-0 start was vs competition that is appreciably weaker compared to what the Wildcats will face once the SEC schedule starts, though.

It will be interesting to see if Abby remains in the midfield. Ian Carry, the head coach, has to have had thoughts of playing her as an outside back. With her speed she would be unbelievably dangerous in that position.

Steiner runs a 23.23

Right now it looks like they want to use her to keep other teams pinned back a bit. But I agree. When she moved to right back for her club team she became really difficult for other teams to match up with.
