Can Elder win a State Title in 2019 and keep their decade streak going?

I know I've talked about it before but I just think Elder's baseball accomplishment is amazing and I'd hate to see it end. Since 1943 they have won a baseball state title at least once in every decade since. They kept the record in tact with a successful campaign in 1999. They haven't won a state title in over 10 years so they have to win it this year or next to keep their once a decade string alive.

Can Elder make a run this year or will they have to wait for another improbable title run in 2019 to keep the string alive?

The streak has already been broken. They needed to win one by 2009 to keep it going.

Can they? Of course. Will they? unfortunately I don't think so. The streak comes to an end this decade.

It's an incredible accomplishment. It is not outside the realm of possibility to win it this year but it would be improbable since they were 2-7 against the GCL South. BUT the GCL South is really strong this year. Maxpreps has Elder's power ranking as 10th in D1 with their strength of schedule being one of the highest in the state. The most difficult teams they would play in districts are St X and Badin, and Elder has one win against each of those.

I'd be curious to know what the expectations were for Elder the years that they won it. And how much different is this 17-8 team compared to them?

No it isn't. The streak nearly ended in 1999. 1998 Elder went 19-10, pretty mediocre. They lost their best hitter (BA of .422 in 1998), their best power hitter (lead the team in HR with 8 in 1998), 3rd best hitter (BA of .395 in 1998), their best pitcher (ERA of 1.67) and 3rd best pitcher (ERA of 2.45). By all logic, they looked to take another step back in 1999. Instead they followed up a year later going 28-1 to win a state title in the last year of the decade.

MoeDude's wording wasn't the best but he didn't say their last title was in 1999.

I would be more worried about West Clermont in the sectional finals.

Yea, you can show me where he mentioned that 2005 title. Thanks.

I wonder how you would have comprehended his post if you had no knowledge of the 2005 win?

After beating Anderson 10-0 last week West Clermont is next up on Elder's tournament schedule this Thursday May 17th.

GO Panthers! Keep the streak alive!

2012

their chance was 2012

Elder loss to Moeller 4 to 6

the coach miss a balk with base loaded

Moeller pitcher throw to first the first baseman was outside the dirt on first

easy call to miss..........

Elder could have won that game. ............

No. I don't see them coming close this year or next. I've seen a couple games this year and they really struggle to hit and score runs.

I agree. 2012 was the last time Elder was a legit threat to win state in both baseball and football.

Big underdog.

Got blown out each time they played this year. No-hits last time in a 10-0 loss.

Big test this week. Can Elder's quest to keep the string alive overcome Moeller. Playing with a mission and heart can create interesting drama in sports.

Stay tuned, after all I don't think there were many who thought this Panther team would win a District Title this year.

Also said technically, because by definition, a decade is a period of 10 years.

They gave Moeller all they could handle but came up short in 9 innings, 3-2.

Also, the GCL schools aren’t friends. This circle jerk going on is stupid. It’s like listening to idiot SEC fans bragging about Bama winning a title. The schools are rivals and you don’t cheer for your rivals. Elder fans like Purple Reign have zero balls.

TBH, they underachieved in the regular season. The 2-7 GCL record was inexcusable as was the azz kicking Moe laid on them at the end of the Reg Season. They did have a very good post season run, fueled by their 2 starting Pitchers. Confusing season overall.

I have seen Moeller paly several times this year and I feel like in the last few weeks, they are finally playing up to their potential. If Mason wins tonight, will the Mason vs. Moeller the de facto State Championship game?

If you ever played the game, you would realize that there is tremendous competitive respect among GCL schools. Sure, they want to beat them every time, and some probably will never be friends (many are). But there is certainly mutual admiration.
