Transfer vs. open enrollment?

Settle a bet for me. If a student transfer from a non open enrollment school he has to sit out so many games? If a student open enrolls to a open bordering school does he still miss so many games? And if he leaves a perochiol school and returns to the district he lives in ,, does he sit?

NO! You can transfer back to your home public school district from a private or open enrollment school without sitting out any games. It is a 1 time exception. I believe it is exception 9 in the transfer by 4-7-2

It depends
It depends
It depends

In each scenario the player may have to sit or may not, it depends if they meet one of the many one time transfer allowances without penalty.

Thank God transfer penalties are in place.

Something has to protect these kids from their idiot parents. The fear that failed frustrated jock dads hold of lost athletic eligibility is the only thing keeping some of these fools from making their kids change schools like normal people change their socks.

This is simple. You get one transfer to an OE school after ninth grade. So once in high school (grades 10, 11 or 12) and if it doesn't work out you can return to your "home" school and finish there. One. That's all. And no moving into a coach's basement and pretending to be a "son". You move with a family member or existing guardian or you stay put. Stop the madness.

Does an OE school include parochial schools also? And is it after ninth grade or before ninth grade?

That instance actually has had 2 totally different outcomes. N. Canton had Erick Howard move into the basement of their head coach, who had been appointed Erick's legal guardian, there were no repercussions, although the coach did participate in the decision of where Erick would stay so that he could continue on at NCH. Massillon had Thayer Mumford move into Coach Moore's house after he had been appointed legal guardian for Thayer, it was also Thayer's only move to an OE school during his H.S. years, it was ruled that Moore was involved in talks about where he would live, and Thayer had to sit out 8 games and Massillon had to pay a $5000 fine. So, in Howard's case, nothing was supposedly done wrong, in Mumford's case, things were found to supposedly be done wrong. Karma is a funny thing though, Mumford is at OSU and projected to be a starter next year and is doing better in his schooling than ever before for him. Howard on the other hand is in prison and most likely will be for about 10-15 more years. Which instance was more beneficial for the student? You decide, to heck with OHSAA.

Is there any allowance given or exceptions made for "homeless" students?

What about "geographic self identity"? Say a student lives in Dayton and goes to Dunbar but identifies as a Huber Heights Warrior?

Toledo Central Catholic lost 3 football players last July, all went back to their home districts and all three had to sit out.
