Potential MVC Expansion??

Here's the current MVC divisional format for football

SCARLET
CHCA
Summit
CCD
Norwood
NCH
MVCA

GREY
Dayton Christian
Lockland
St. Bernard
New Miami
Clark
CCPA

If PM and Bacon join the league, how would you realign/expand the divisions?

Move CCD and MVCA down to grey and put PM and Bacon in Scarlet

problem is, CCD will go 10-0 and claim to be champions and run their mouth

haven't beaten CHCA since 2000.

they used to be really good too.

I would love to see
PM
Bacon
Summit
CCD
NCH
CHCA
Norwood

in the higher division

I don't think they'd do that just because Norwood is a lot bigger than the other publics in the league.

I'd love to see the MVC split up the divisions geographically.

The article doesn't sound too promising for RB and PM. I always thought it was a long shot they would get in - too many of the smaller schools would object to having to play them unless they change the entire format of the league competitions.

The only reason Roger Bacon and Purcell want out of the gcl-coed, is because they know they can't compete in it! So they try to go to the MVC to win a title??

The fact that either one of them are trying to join a league for a chance to win against D7 schools like New Miami, Lockland, St Bernard... is just sad...

I think offering a football only affiliation was pretty generous from the conference considering these two schools approached the MVC-not the other way around.

Between the two, Purcell would probably be a solid competitor in most sports at the Scarlet level (against the Summits, NCH, CHCAs etc.) but would be too strong for some of the others like Lockland, New Miami.

Except for maybe boys basketball, the Cavs would not just show up and dominate in any sport as they currently stand. They seemed more likely to be invited.

Roger Bacon has a stronger overall athletic program based on the GCL standings and could show up and be at the top of the majority of conference sponsored sports.

I wonder if there was any thinking that it had to be both or none for all conference inclusion?

Fact is Summit is one of the top overall small school athletic programs (and I would say the best overall in the MVC) in the region and they have regularly won against these schools in a variety of sports. There are a handful of other MVC schools who have had success against PM/RB too but not as consistently. The rest of the MVC would probably have their hands full for most sports.

Something mentioned by CCS' AD in the article made some sense too, about how neither school would bring a junior high/middle school program with them. The MVC has a pretty organized, strong middle school program, with several end of season tournaments etc. Most of the athletes compete against each other for 6 years between middle and high school.

Personally I think it would be wise for Bacon and Purcell to stay in the GCL for the time being. If they take the football only membership it could put them on rocky footing for their long term overall membership (even though I believe both are charter members). At the same time, schools like McNick may choose to bite their tongues as they are staring down a lot of bus rides to Hamilton, Middletown and the Dayton area for all road conference contests without Bacon or Purcell.

Don't think CCD would go for this because they'd get killed and McNick is much larger than most of these schools.

Really? Local competition against teams their size? Just come out and say, we're looking to play a weaker schedule. It's really only 2 out of 12 teams that are their size. If this PM principal saying this, I a buy it. But when you a school with 41 players on you roster and it's no freshman on it, come out and say what it really is.

Existing MVC schools
Norwood - D4 - 43 players
CHCA - D5 - 55 players
Summit - D5 - 44 players (9-12)
Clark - D5 - 23 players (9-12)
NCH - D5 - 37 players (9-12)
CCD - D6 - 25 players (9-12)
St B - D6 - 34 players (9-12)
Dayton - D6 - 42 players
Lockland - D7 - 20 players (9-12)
CCPA - D7 - 21 players (9-12)
MVCA - D7 - 20 players (9-12)
NM - D7 - 27 players (9-12)

New schools
RB - D4 - 41 players
PM - D5 - 41 players (9-12)

I don't think PM and RB are going to play any of the significantly smaller programs. I can't find the article link at this moment, but I think they are going to breakdown into unbalanced divisions and not play mandatory crossovers. I think the six team division is: CHCA (55), Summit(44), Norwood (43), Dayton Christian (42), Purcell Marian (41) and Roger Bacon (41). All the other schools are in the other division.

Just found the link: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...nce/587877002/

CHCA and Summit have been the two strongest programs in the MVC for several years running. NCH had won several titles going back about 8-10 years.

Bacon and Purcell will definitely be in the mix in the Scarlet Division for the foreseeable future but they won't show up and run roughshod. Frankly the future is brighter for many existing MVC schools than for these two GCL emigrants.

I don't see CHCA coming off their perch this year or anytime soon.

One thing I think the conference has done a nice job of is minimizing lopsided matchups as much as possible in football. You don't see New Miami playing CHCA, Summit playing Lockland etc. much these days.
