Medina Buckeye - Ohio Cardinal Conference?

What's the latest with Medina Buckeye and their search for a new home. Heard the OCC had mutual interest.

I have heard that too. Along with the possibility of the Suburban League American Division and Great Lakes Conference. I think the GLC would be the best travelwise for Buckeye, but they do have former ties to a lot of those current OCC teams from the old Mohican Trail Conference.

GLC only has 7 teams....They would only be 30-35 minute ride from the Parma schools in the East and close to the same for EC and Bay to the West.

This surprises me about the OCC interest.

Buckeye will not travel to any of the schools in the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Closest one is Mansfield.

That isn't true. Ashland, Madison, and Wooster are definitely closer. Check your GPS.

Lakewood would be nice and the Parma Public Schools would feel good about staying in the league if another big school joined. I still think they may try to bail at some point.

Bay
Rocky River
Parma
Valley Forge
Normandy
Holy Name
Elyria Catholic
Lakewood or Buckeye

Decent league for all sports

I'm pretty sure it was common knowledge Buckeye was checking out the schools in the OCC. Visiting the facilities and admin teams to decide if it was a good fit.

Lakewood makes more sense for the GLC rather than Buckeye....

Ashland, Wooster, Madison (Mansfield), and Mansfield are all 45-1hr away. Mount Vernon is 1 1/2 hours. It will never happen. Not to leave out West Holmes at 1 hr 10 min.

Buckeye should join the PTC Metro, bump Field down to the PTC County.

You missed my point. He said Mansfield was the closest school, which it isn't true. I was pointing out there was 3 schools closer. I agree though that because of West Holmes and Mount Vernon it wouldn't be a good fit.

Could be possible with Medina County brethren Cloverleaf already in it.

Madison put the brakes on the SBC option. Sounds like another team is interested in the OCC - guessing that's Medina Buckeye.

Buckeye would destroy that league in all sports! They wouldn't want to drive to Portage County all the time.

GLC Baby!

1st of all, only 3 portage county schools are in the ptc metro, which would become two upon Buckeye joining. they are Streetsboro, which is just off route 80. And Ravenna, which is just down the road from Streetsboro. Coventry, Springfield, Woodridge, Norton are all in Summit County, and Cloverleaf is in Medina County.

2nd of all, Buckeye would be very competitive in the PTC in many sports, but they wouldn't "destroy that league in all sports". Football, Coventry and Woodridge could probably compete with them. Cross Country/Track, this is Woodridges league. I don't know much about soccer. Buckeye seems to have a good basketball team, But I think Coventry, Norton, and Woodridge could offer some competition. Wrestling, the PTC is actually pretty competitive. I don't follow Baseball.

All of those schools are an hour or more away except Norton and Cloverleaf and would not be very competitive most years in the "money making" sports. Woodridge is very good in XC and track would be interesting.

GLC teams are all around 30 minutes. This would be a no brainer decision if the opportunity presented itself! These two leagues are night and day!

Is there been any new information on Buckeye's future league affiliation?

From what I have been hearing the OCC is moving forward with Medina Buckeye. As Buckeye is happy with the schools in the OCC and all OCC schools are on board with Buckeye.

I did see "New Conference Update" was on the agenda at Buckeye's board meeting last week. Page two. 4B.

Nothing posted online.

Hearing that there are some bumps with some of the Buckeye coaches wanting to move to the OCC. Going from PAC to OCC is a big jump in size and competition. That's my guess what the issue is.

Any travel concerns?

I know Buckeye had a decent amount of travel during its days in the Mohican Area Conference, but that was a different era. That was back when fuel was much cheaper, and very few coaches and administrators complained about travel distances.

This would make no sense and could be a terrible shock for Buckeye sports.
