Why Don't Schools Have Tarps?!

Just wondering why schools/teams in Northeast Ohio especially, don't tarp the infield at least? A lot of these games that are canceled/postponed could actually be played if one of the school/teams had a tarp..

My guess is because they aren't giving them away.

I remember being at a summer tournament where there were tarps and not one of them getting rolled out when it started raining.

It was one of those high dollar "premier" deals and everyone either had or was real close to having their games in.

Money in the bank..

I know their not cheap, but was just wondering. A lot of these games would get canceled. Today Windham vs Mogadore for a game at 4:30 is canceled. I personally think its nice enough too play, could get more games in..

$1600, minimum for a new tarp is probably one good reason why. Having a tarp might have helped having a few more games, but I am not sure it would have a made a whole lot of difference this year. Even teams with turf have had to cancel games.

How much to have turf for a softball field? The footprint is so much smaller than a football field. Seems it would be half the price of a football field.

Those are too expensive. We just tarp the pitchers mound and home plate. That's really all you need if your base paths are crushed brick

Just playing around on a turf site and this is what I came up with for softball
Sub-base cost = $280,000
FieldTurf cost = $340,000

About $500,000 at the minimum, but if you could get a local company to give you a substantial discount on the subgrade you might be able to get it down to $350,000.

Forget turf and tarps, I am about to start a GoFundMe page for a dome - this is ridiculous

I believe that Berea-Midpark plays on turf cause they use the nearby Baldwin Wallace facility as their home field.

I have often wondered about the absence of grass infields in softball.often wondered if they were not allowed by rule.

Yes Midpark has a turf field .. and it's "their own" but I believe it was all done as a joint project with BW. The facility is very nice
