2015 - Time to reshuffle the Divisions

If my memory is correct, the Ohio high school football division makeup will be realigned this year according to each schools top three year enrollment numbers.
Any big changes? Any surprises?

I am pretty sure D6 champion Minster will drop down to D7.

There is also a chance that D7 champion Marion Local will move up to D6, though that one may be iffier.

There were several strong programs that were near the edge last time who may be moving up or down this time around. All the schools are listed in their division and region on the OHSAA site.

Enrollment figures for the next 2-year cycle will probably be released sometime in April. Once you have those, you can get a pretty good idea of where the new divisional cut-offs will fall.

Yeah.

Not only do many schools move around Divisions, especially in the closely grouped III-IV-V, but the OHSAA also changes things up with regards to Regions. Then in 2016 we really shuffle the deck.

Our school (VASJ) was only D3 by one boy last count - I'm sure everything will stay status quo for the Vikings.

Hasn't VASJ brought in some larger classes the past 2-3 years? In the 120+ range (boys and girls combined)?

In the last count they had about 122 boys (average of 40 boys per class for 3 classes included in that number). Don't they now have more like 60 boys per class on average in their 9-11 grade classes this year?

If so, they would remain comfortably in D-III for basketball this coming year.

You bring in classes of 120-130 kids but you lose kids for various reasons in all grades throughout the year. Because VASJ was so close to the bottom in D3 count wise - I do not see much changing.

I meant it doesn't matter because a MAC school wins both division 6 and 7 !

region 9. Tri Valley might move to D2. Athens and Desales might go to D4. Marion Franklin and Beechcroft might be D3

I looked back on the OHSAA site and the last time regions were posted was on June 13, 2013. I will start checking the OHSAA site each day in early June.

I think that last time Louisville was the largest school in D3 and Tri Valley was second largest. Both could go either way depending on other schools.

Don't be surprised if they keep all divisions the same this year and just do a big reshuffle next year. I hear rumors.

Which would be ridiculous since THEIR bylaws say they will do a count every 2 years. So they would just ignore the bylaws? Nobody holding them accountable.

Just like the NCAA!!!!

Columbus DeSales and Columbus Watterson are both very close to the DIII-DIV like.. In years past DeSales has been 2-3 and Watterson has been between 2-4... Not sure if it'll change or not.. But that matchup in the playoffs has always been entertaining

I have heard the same rumblings about just doin the reshuffle in 2016-17. Seems kind of silly to do all these changes for just one year. A friend of mine is an AD at a large Cincy school and says that is the vibe he is getting and most all schools are in favor.

ODE Headcount

Numbers are out from the ODE. Did some quick analysis and they really should do some shuffling of the divisions to maintain balance.

The ODE headcounts are modified to get the counts for OHSAA purposes.

Shake Up in D3

OHSAA just posted the new enrollment totals for the next two year cycle. Multiplier gets added next year. Everyone go look at their school! Hubbard has 253 boys, which is less than what many D4 teams had in the previous cycle. It looks like all mighty Hubbard might be moving down.

Another interesting one is defending champ Toledo Central Catholic checking in at 255. Since Ohio is losing population maybe the cut off number will be lower but still...

Is it just me or do a lot of these numbers seem significantly lower than the last tally???

OHSAA posted their numbers: http://www.ohsaa.org/members/hsenroll15.htm#C

Somebody with some time go at it and project for the 2015 season.

By the way, I think there will be pressure to realign next season as there are some major changes and if they decide to keep status quo the OHSAA is going to get an earful.

wasnt this supposed to be competitive balance? I may be a Math guy, but I don't get the numbers. Public school numbers go up by the adjustments, but parochial school numbers stay the same so many of them would actually move down not up a division like what was proposed by competitive balance ????

Not sure why the OP had to take a shot at Hubbard. They just beat you in the playoffs two years in a row, relax.
