The way it was explained was that if your school didn't have a sport, they were eligible to play for another local school. Might be an option for some of these barely big enough schools if true.

This was the situation when Poland, Mooney, Ursuline, Boardman and Austintown Fitch pretty much combined to form one team, mind you they don't have a team anymore. Canfield was the only actual non-club team and they remain as the only team of any sort in the greater Youngstown area but that is contingent on the Ice Zone staying open.
From what is contained in Exceptions 4 & 6 to OHSAA Bylaw 4-3-1, SLAGuy has it right. Exceptions 4 & 6 are written to provide an opportunity for an athlete that attends a certain type of school (basically anything but a conventional public school), and the school does not offer the sport the athlete wishes to play. And there is nothing in this bylaw that states any school team for which this student plays then becomes a club team.

This bylaw does not pertain to schools (ala simkon) that want to combine their athletes into a ‘club’ version and thus forfeit OHSAA status.

So, for example, if in 2018 St Thomas Aquinas is unable to sponsor a football team, each STA student that wanted to play football would be provided a participation opportunity either 1) at the public school located in the district of residence (e.g. Hoover, GlenOak, Marlington, etc.) or at the public school located in the district where the non-public school is located (e.g. Louisville). STA could not simply merge its team with Canton CC or any other school and maintain OHSAA membership.

Sigh... If they don't cancel their season they're going to end up forfeiting ball games.

I get what the coach is trying to say. But if they start out losing a couple of mercy-rule games and lose a player or two, they're not finding a couple of guys in the halls to take that kind of beating. Hope their schedule is favorable to them.

Strasburg has 17 players at their scrimmage against Leetonia last night, one looks likes he's in 7th grade. Hope they make it through the season. Their QB looks really good.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic has 18.

Strasburg and TCC play each other in week 10.
I hope they can both field teams by then.

Trimble had 14 varsity players one year. They went 10-0 and went to the playoffs.

Two years ago, Fisher Cath had 17 players by week 9. Still went 6-4.

This year, FC has 40 players.

Usually these things are hard to resurrect for good, so let's see if it'll hold past a couple years.

I guess I'm just from a different world but the idea of trying to pull kids out of the hallway who didn't train with the team all year just to try and have a season to me sounds ludicrous and a good way to get a kid injured.
