Bob Ley retires after 40 years as ESPN anchor

Quote:
Bob Ley, after a 40-year career at ESPN, announced his retirement from the network Wednesday.

Ley, who had taken a leave of absence in October, said in a statement that he will be retiring at the end of this month. He was ESPN's longest-tenured anchor.

"To be clear, this is entirely my decision. I enjoy the best of health, and the many blessings of friends and family, and it is in that context that I'm making this change," he said.

Class act. He will be missed and is a dying breed. Never had to scream or say outlandish stupid $hit for ratings.

Really liked Ley when he did the daily SportsCenter shows, the Outside the Lines were ok, I feel like many times ESPN takes a "holier than thou" approach to the OTL shows. In some ways, the proliferation of sports and the negative aspects of cheating, steroids and addictions are a byproduct of 24 hour sports networks.

Spot on. Just like with Fox and CNN. If there is no news then make your own.

First Charley Steiner, and now this.

Boy, Ley looked like a cherubic high school junior when he started. Congrats on a solid career.

Jumping from a sinking ship. If they lose Jeremy Schaap they'll be down to zero journalists.

And with irish_buffalo's comment as subtext, I am painfully reminded that Stephen A. Smith is the highest paid repor...um, personality at ESPN.
