Got to go with Tallmadge being favorite, with Highland a close second, followed by Kent, Copley, Aurora, in no particular order. Barberton, and Revere to bring up the rear.

Baseball is a funny sport with the weather in NE Ohio and the high volume of games that are played in a short span. So, lots of things can happen. With that said, I would be surprised if Highland does not win the league this year. I know Tallmadge will be good but this Highland team should be the one to beat. There will be 7 starters back and 11 seniors. Injuries decimated the team last year and that is why until it's over, anything can happen. But, on paper, the team looks to be loaded. Can't wait for the season!

Aurora and Tallmadge were vying for the title last year and came down to final came between the two to decide the league. Both return a considerable amount of players. Aurora has two big losses to fill in Arslanian and Blue, but have a talented group coming back. Tallmadge lost Taylor as their lone senior, but a big bat to replace in the lineup. Highland did have some key injuries last season that hampered their season and return a good number of players with experience. I would say of those 3, the title will go to one of them.

Kent was a surprise last year and return some solid players in their lineup, but not sure they will have the pitching depth to keep up with Tallmadge, Highland, Aurora in the conference. Copley is an unknown as they return quite a few players, but lost their Senior Catcher which will be considerable. The big question is will this team play for the coach and can they unite to put together a good season. Seems there was a lot of chatter on here about the coach, parents, players last year.

Revere will have a young group still. Not sure they will have the fire power to compete with the top teams in the league.

Barberton, I don't expect much and will most likely stay in the cellar this year.

I'd be interested to know who are some of the teams top players this year, what class are they in, and if they are playing at the next level where are they going (or underclassmen where are they looking)?

I would have to say Tallmadge. Good solid core with pitching, hitting, and speed.

Copley- Seems to always have a good group. Anyone have an idea who the coach is?

Copley has a dominate starting pitcher, Tyler Hayes (Bowling Green Commit) who can match up with any pitcher in the league or area for that matter. Looks like there isn't much quality pitching behind Hayes, which is very similar to last years team. Very good group of returning seniors (7-8) who have experience at the varsity level. Just with so little quality pitching, Copley will probably finish behind Tallmadge, Highland, and Aurora, and possibly Kent, who beat Copley twice last season. Coach is still Fantozzi.

Suburban League American 2018

Aurora JV went undefeated in the Suburban League last year handling each team easily. Saw them mercy rule both Highland, Tallmadge, and Copley. They return the majority of their varsity roster just as Tallmadge does. However, you have to think Tallmadge is the favorite. Saw Highland throw a very talented freshman lefty against Aurora JV in their second meeting and would not be surprised to see him this year. Also, is it expected to be the last go-around for Tallmadge? As of today I would assume it goes Tallmadge, Aurora, Highland, Copley, Kent/Revere, Barberton. Anyone have some ideas?

Aurora commits:

Evan Fromwiller - Ohio U (Sr.)

Joe Capretta - Kent St. (Sr.)

Jacob Blue - John Carroll (Sr.)

Zach Elsawy - Kenyon College (Sr.)

Michael Sapp - Lakeland CC (Sr).

John Retton - Thiel College (Sr.)

Jacob Loudon - Muskingum (Sr.)

Carter Gerbrick - Indiana Wesleyan (Jr.)

Will Carpenter - Penn St. (So.)

Multiple other kids hold offers...

JV team records not always an indicator of how kids will perform playing varsity the following year. Additionally, many teams play their talented underclassmen on varsity, not JV, due to a variety of reasons. Freshman team play is even more irrelevant when evaluating a program. That being said, Aurora has always produced a quality varsity baseball program, as evident by the number of their kids who move on to college competition. Highland coach has always been known to hold more than a few talented freshman/sophomores down on jv, as they traditionally play upperclassmen, sometimes at the cost of more talented underclassmen. Just so happens now Highland has a very deep senior class this season. I believe the biggest question mark for Highland will be the health of their # 1 starter, Keller, from last season. Kid had a pretty serious arm injury last Spring. Forewent surgery, went rehab route. Seems to have hurt his college recruitment, as I don't believe he has committed anywhere yet. His ultimate ability to regain health, & pitch effectively again will be a big factor if Highland is to challenge Tallmadge and Aurora.

From Monday:

Kent Roosevelt 11, Field 3

Quote:
Last season, the Falcons didn’t lose a game until the postseason.

Roosevelt made sure that storyline wouldn’t be repeated in 2018, downing host Field, 11-3, Monday afternoon.

Drawing nine walks and six hit-by-pitches, the Rough Riders (2-0) burst out for two go-ahead runs in the third, tacked on three more runs in the fourth and scored four in the fifth.

Up 4-3 in the top of the fourth, sophomore second baseman Zac Common drew his second hit-by-pitch. With two outs and runners on first and second, junior center fielder Lucius Ivory flicked a pitch that was in on his hands down the first-base line. The ball dropped between first base and home plate, with Common dashing around third to make the score 5-3. It was a daring move by Common going second-to-home on the dropped ball down the line, and the throw home beat him, but Common somehow faked his way around the catcher, falling on home plate for the insurance run.

Highland is now 1-3. Seems their offense has not come alive yet on their Spring Break trip.

Aurora and Riverside tied 4-4 going to top of the 7th.

Interestingly, Riverside's pitcher has thrown 114 pitches. Will the coach bring him in the bottom of the 7th?
