Heard Inkster is out. I'd guess if nothing else, a DC team may be easy to come by...Woodson is nice because they tend to win games in the DCIAA in recent years.

Eastlake North is playing a Canadian team in Week 4 (Bishop Ryan). I'd guess that was more desirable then playing St. Edward.

Just one man's opinion...I don't think that the OHSAA should award Harbin points for Canadian opponents. Thinking in terms of quality control, who the heck knows what goes on up in Canada? A regular season game between two Canadian teams...is it really a game? Is there a keg of Molson at the 50 (or is it 55) yard line? If there aren't enough kids who have dressed, do they go 9 vs. 9? Do they play Canadian rules when two Canadian teams play each other?

Canadian teams have to sit their 19-year olds when they play in Ohio. You are right, when they go back to Canada they play under very different rules. It may be reasonable to at least think about not counting the points, but I am not positive that is the right thing to do. We'll see a lot more Bye weeks, I'd guess, and I want kids to play 10 games every year.

Well, I'm aware that Canada is used as a band-aid for very real scheduling problems that affect the private schools (as well as some independent publics). I would like to see the OHSAA address the scheduling problems head-on instead of allowing these games. Playing a Canadian team feels to me a lot like Ed's or Ignatius basketball putting the St. Raphael CYO team on their schedule (no offense intended to St. Raphael's CYO, which happens to have a very solid 12th grade team this year).

I wonder is Texas/New Mexico, Arizona, and California teams play Mexican teams sometimes?

The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (and other Canadian organizations) are affiliate-members of the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations). Perhaps that relationship has given the OHSAA comfort that the rules are similar enough to go ahead and count the points...

Or, it could be that some border schools rely on playing Canada and the NFHS can't disallow that because they can't arbitrarily pick a cut-off point. For example, school A is 50 miles from the border so they can go play; but school B is 55 so they can't. Imagine that can of worms...or worse yet disallowing it completely.

As an aside, I also believe there are USA football programs as dismal as some in Canada.

I don't have my database handy, but I do not believe they are many games against Canadian schools each season (4 or 5?, less than 10 I'm sure). The OHSAA could eliminate computer points and it would not have a huge impact. Schools could still choose to play the game, but take the Divisor reduction, which sometimes is the better deal anyway...

On the topic of the schedule, I doubt D5 VASJ plays D1 Eds...just my guess. They played D5 Wheelersburg in Week 4 last season...and lost big.

21 years ago St. Joes dropped to D2...20 years ago, they merged, now they are D5...I don't blame them for not playing us. Too few kids to compete.

first off, no way is next years o line going to be the best in recent years, the 2005 team was by far the best ever, when a rb has over 2000 yrds again, i will believe it, next mogus is not anywhere close to 285, lastly, i think with the schedule im expecting nothing more then 5-6 wins, i can't think of the last time we beat a GCL team

Elder in 2007. But the 2 season drought against the GCL has seemed like an eternity.

With our schedule i don't understand why we need all three of the big ones from the GCL, i mean the team across form Wendys won a state title a year ago yet they still get to play JFK and garbage teams from NY

the players are there on the line. this is the best core players on the line since 2005. it comes down to schemes. can the offense coordinator use the size speed and strength to there advantage. last years run schemes and blocking schemes were bad. that should change this year with a new o-coordinator this year. shh thats right a new coordinator. a new coordinator that will tweak current offense schemes, but not totally change the offense. about the players size and weight i will say this. the info i get are almost from horses mouth. i was told about these lineman by a reliable source. also i have watched and studied these current eds players. my source stated on mogus 280-285. he was 265 last year i figured its safe to assume 10-15 pound gain on a lineman is not a stretch considered there all fat bodies already. i personally have not seen him but Ive heard from other players and personal who say he has stepped up his dedication to football. we will see, its all still talk till the season starts. i am optimistic and excited about this season. to me who cares who they schedule. if your good enough you beat those teams and move on if not, you lose. I'm not sold on all those teams being good on eds sched. last year most of those teams were senior dominated. that wont be the case this year. eds will be senior dominated this year so we will see.

Who is the new OC? Was he on the staff last year? How is Perella holding up health-wise?

Did they fill this spot already??? I would like to see the jv coach Gallagher get it. He knows these players and the system and has done nothing but put up points at the freshman and JV level.
