Walmart boosts starting pay to $11 an hour, offers bonuses

Are Trump's policies responsible for these rising wages at Walmart?

Quote:
Walmart, the world’s largest private employer, is boosting its starting salary for U.S. workers to $11 an hour, handing out one-time cash bonuses to those who don’t benefit from the pay hike and expanding its maternity and parental leave benefits.

The company said the moves that will affect more than a million hourly workers in the U.S. are tied to recently enacted tax legislation that will save it money. They do also reflect the tight labor market in which employers are competing for workers, as both Walmart and its rival Target have been raising wages for the past few years.

PR Guy: Psst. Hey Boss. Looks like we're saving about $5 billion taxes on this Trump gift thing. I think we should give out an extra $200 million in wages and benefits and hype it up. People will admire our altruism!

CEO: Great idea. Let's hold off on the announcement until the day we repatriate the $80 billion we got stashed in tax havens. With any luck, the media will only report one of the stories!

Press: Walmart finally does something slightly good.

Liberals: I smell a rat.

Other Liberals: THAT'S STILL NOT A LIVING WAGE!

More than likely the wages are the result of Walmart's propensity to bend suppliers over and make them take it if they want to sell to them.

Fewer illegal immigrants= smaller workforce
Low unemployment numbers = higher wages as companies compete for talent.

Has Trump enacted policies that led to fewer illegal? Yes
Has Trump enacted policies that led to business growth (lower unemployment)? Yes

WalMart announces they’re closing 63 Sam’s Club stores around the country, laying off thousands of people

http://www.businessinsider.com/walma...-stores-2018-1

Quote:
The closings came on the same day Walmart announced plans to raise starting hourly wages to $11, expand employee benefits, and offer workers bonuses of up to $1,000.

Some employees were informed of the closures via notices that were sent through FedEx on Thursday.

"FedEx showed up at my door with a package from Sam's Club and I was thinking that maybe it was my W-2," an employee of a Sacramento, California Sam's Club told Business Insider. "It was a letter saying they are closing down... I'm unsure of what to do I have a baby and a mentally sick mother. I'm lost. I'm heartbroken. I'm scared."

Your point? Are you against businesses closing up stores that aren't profitable?

Maybe they should use some of their tax savings to drug test their employees.

Apparently, many of our leaders don't see a drug problem, many states have legalized pot.

More come to work half drunk than on pot. A lot more start to work and do not make it because of drinking. The ones on pot make it and are happy to be there.

It happens. Sears had a horrible Christmas season while other brick and mortar retailers had better than expected seasons. They probably won't last much longer. Feel bad for the employees but it happens.

The Sam's Club business model has many flaws.... which is why it struggles compared to WalMart.

It's a tax revenue source to them, and little more.

Let's let the Walmart employees burn doobage on their breaks, and drug test unemployment, welfare, student aid, and Medicaid recipients instead ?

Stocking shelves and running a cash register are entry level jobs. They require zero education. Not even a GED. $11/hr for a job that requires virtually no skills and no education is far from crumbs.

It is the number 1 problem in the unskilled workforce.

Most employers who hire unskilled laborers find that 1 in 10 can actually pass a drug test.

This starts in the schools. From little on kids are sent home every time they have a tummy ache or "aren't feeling good". They learn quickly that all they have to do is say they are sick and they are sent home.... with no consequences. Then when they get a job and try the same crap they are shocked that they get suspended or fired.

A person who shows up and has a little common sense can walk into Walmart and be managing the place in less than a year. We have some real lazy people in our work force.
