Watched The Fighter (2010) last weekend as well as In Cold Blood (1967). I do not know how I missed The Fighter when it came out. In Cold Blood was also an outstanding film that chilled me to the bone. I was aware of the Truman Capote book and the controversy of writing about murderers in a somewhat sympathetic light. I was not ready, however, for the incredible performance of Robert Blake (of Little Rascals and Baretta fame) It made me wonder about the murder of his wife.

The Fighter 7/8

In Cold Blood 7/8

I watched In Cold Blood last night - for the second time. The ending is definitely memorable. Maybe because I have seen it before and knew what to expect, I rate it a bit lower than you. 6/8, but still a worthwhile watch of this film purposely done in black and white.

Jurassic World- 6.5/8. I think I liked it more than critics. The end scene was pretty awesome. I’m also a big fan of Chris Pratt. I think this is the second best of the Jurassic Park films behind only the original.

A fascinating look at the beginning and rise of McDonald's. Most of it happened before I was born so I had never heard or experienced anything covered in the movie. A stellar cast who all give great performances. Really interesting to learn that the man behind McDonald's is actually a real bastard.

Better than I expected but still painfully predictable.

Alone in Berlin

6/8

Interesting story about a German couple who after losing their only child in the invasion of France engage in a covert propaganda battle with the Nazis. Based on a true story. The movie features very restrained acting and there is a building sense of menace. This is an excellent, low key look at life under a brutal authoritarian regime.

Is it making Tonya Harding out to be the victim though ? Because she's a terrible person and I won't see it if it's Hollywood glorifying a piece of trailer park trash like her.

Lady Bird 7.5/8.

The mom was dull in it. The daughter gave a brilliant performance

The Shape of Water 6/8

Was good but not brilliant or mind blowing. Can see why Hollywood loves it though

It probably makes her more sympathetic than she should be. However, the acting is top notch across the board.

Last Jedi 3/8. Really had no purpose for being other than to create a wash, rinse, repeat. The characters had no journey. There was a place the writers apparently wanted them, they did a bunch of irrelevant stuff then the character just became. Humor was all the same note and too much at dramatic moments.

I'm not that big of SW nerd that I can just enjoy this shining example of bad dialogue and bad pacing. The over-all story had potential if they'd decided to carry it out instead of checking off plot devices and the creating a segue to the next feature. It doesn't help that most of the plot driving actors have the charisma of the guy standing in the corner at the party and that there are WAY too many "main" characters.

If the same story had played out without the Star Wars surroundings, it'd be a British made for BBC moved to Netflix at the half season.

Not a huge western fan but this one was pretty good with great performances. I know it's highly thought of but some of wade's decisions in the movie I can't buy. FYI this was the remake.

Oldman was good in Darkest Hour, but I thought the movie was really slow. He should win the Oscar though. Only one who could potentially upset him is Timothée Chalamet

The SJWs lost their sh1t when it didn't win a Golden Globe. I'm not opposed to seeing it, but it irks me it gets a free pass to the Oscars. Keep in mind, this is about a grad student having an affair with a 17 Yr old. That's stat rape in a lot of states.

Isn't it a gay relationship with an underage boy? Sounds like the Kevin spacey story. The epitome of hypocrisy that Hollywood falls all over itself to praise it while doing the metoo and timesup stuff

I'll try to see most of the hyped movies within reason. But Hollywood always gets 2-3 nominated for best picture that I have zero interest in. That is one of them. The Tonya Harding one is another I have reservations on as I said above

Above average but nothing special. Meryl Streep is again overrated. I honestly don't see the infatuation with her. Misty eyed crying voice in every movie. Always annoying. Woman could crap on a counter for two hours and get nominated for an Oscar

Hanks and some of the support cast are great though

6/8

For pure entertainment, it's hard to beat this ridiculous, over the top movie. I mean they jump the shark so many times they could show this thing during Shark Week on the Nature Chanel.

I still can't get the image of Jason Stathem slaughtering a plane full of bad guys while lugging a baby along with the Chipmunks obnoxious song playing over the mayhem. I mean it's brilliant, scary and daft all at once.
