Mass Hysteria

Might not be very popular, but all these tournament cancellations almost borders on mass hysteria. I believe in being proactive, but this is almost paranoia. Most of these events can't/won't be made up or rescheduled. Was that even taken into consideration. There has been weather where there isn't any other alternative, but to cancel. I sincerely question whether this weekend qualifies. JMHO

Somewhat related, I am on my City's Board of Zoning Appeals.
i just received an email telling me that the packets we need to review for our meeting will not be delivered today due the the impending weather.
As I look outside my house, I see light flurries in the air, nothing more. Oh, and the temperature dropped so it is colder than it was this morning.
It is called "winter".
I guess it was much easier when I was young and had to walk everywhere.
We have lost our minds.

School districts are mostly run by weak fearful people, so this is what we end up with.

It not that they are week. It is because we live in a sue happy country. So, they are very leery to do anything that could get them sued.

You're right. We need to discourage contact sports. It would be a lot safer. Don't have a lot of confidence in what some administrations feel is best for our student athletes; just my opinion.

I don't disagree with you there , we had a level 2 years ago and there was and we were not allowed to goto a tournament that was 10 minutes away even if our parents took their kids to the tournament.

Needless to say my kids all drove out to the tournament watched it and the snow had stopped midday and roads were good. Tournament still went on with teams up to 2 hours away attending and we could not.

So I see your point too.

Another good one: Chardon cancelled “winterfest” due to winter weather.

Yeah, being worried about 16 year old kids wrecking on bad roads on a Saturday morning to catch a bus to a sporting event is "weak."

Sorry dude, we are talking about yesterday, when the weather was not bad. I am perfectly capable of getting my kid to wrestling, I don't need a school administrator to protect my kids for me. This is not a team sport.

I have been lied to all these years. Was told that those dual and tournament matches come with team points and that they are tallied for the purpose of determining which teams win.

Do you guys REALLY think schools that host tournaments want to cancel them??

I mean it's TOUGH to generate any revenue as is with our sport. I couldn't imagine "budgeting " for running a tourney (thinking you are going to have that $) then have to make the decision to cancel.

Team scoring is secondary, and not necessary. Odd that you have been going for years and haven't yet figured that out.

"Lighten up Francis", saying it's the tournaments fault if any one gets injured on the highways is just incorrect.

Sorry. You wrestle in high school, it is considered a team sport just like football and subject to the same participation regulations. Donít like it? Home school your kid and enter him into open tournaments. Otherwise, donít trash the institution that allows your kid the opportunities he has. #Unbelievable.

Then why did

They cancel? Cause they are soft? What's the point of this post if you want one point of view validated. Yea that's pretty much it. Sorry you missed out on a wrestling tournament.

For Christ sake. I swear in the 80's if snow wasnt knee deep, it wasnt wrestling season. These winters are stupid and any chance of a little snow produces fear porn.

I'm more upset that my local districts canceled school the night before. The weather reports were modified and pushed back an hour. No real weather concerns until 2pm or later. Then, of course, it wasn't nearly as bad as predicted. An early release would have been best.

I get canceling Friday night. It wasn't great out in southern Medina, but I've seen worse and they still had events. As long as there was salt on the road, the road was fine.

My complaint is with the districts not allowing any practices or events if school closes. It used to be that no practices were allowed before noon to allow for clean up. Those practices weren't mandatory either. If roads were still under a level warning, coaches would need superintendent approval before having practice. Now, it's zero tolerance. Doesn't make sense because most of those kids are out on the roads doing God knows what anyway.
