I imagine the vote on this proposal will end up being very close. I don't know if it would pass or not.

If it would pass, there are enough exceptions in place that if a kid still wants to transfer, then he or she will do it without any cost to his or her eligibility.

"Education based athletics". Not "win at all costs" athletics. This is a better deterrent to those who put athletics above education.

A significant number of the membership sees a problem. Otherwise this wouldn't be on the ballot.

Personally, I would get rid of the half season sit out rule and go strictly to no post season.

I would also get rid of all exceptions.

This would have the least negative impact on a transfer player and the most positive impact of bringing back what high schools sports is supposed to be...my school versus your school.

And some would also like to see that taken to the next level - my "community-based" school versus your "community-based" school. Or my community versus your community.

Rather than those who I can entice to come and play for my school versus who you can entice.

IMO, at the end of the day this just hurts kids who transfer for the right reasons, which is the vast majority, and who are just looking to better themselves and see an opportunity to be happier elsewhere. I think sitting out half of a football season or 11 games of a basketball season is a pretty big deterrent when most HS varsity careers are so short.

How many end up sitting out anyway? Haven't seen many Euclid transfers sitting out half the season. Danny Clark never sat....this won't do anything to the ones breaking the rules

If you transfer within the same school district, you have to sit. If you have a change of residence into a new district, you don't.

Or if you get an apartment for a dollar a month for the duration of the football season.

It certainly seems like it'll stop players from transferring for their senior years, but I'm not sure how big of an issue that is.

Agreed. Wonder if the Hilliard Bradley coach is paying attention as he tries to turn his program into the Pick Central of Hilliard.

If I remember correctly Danny Clark moved out of Massillon during his sophomore year.

Yes, the family did move. Tough to argue though that it was not a move made for football motive. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, most likely it's a duck.

I am not arguing the motive nor do I think it matters. He did not break the rules and that is why the OHSAA approved the transfer. I didn’t understand the dig on a young man that abided by the rules.

Why didn't he go to Tallmadge that's where they rented the house.

Probably because Tallmadge was not good at football. I am not arguing whether it was or was not sports motivated just that it was by the rules.

Why did Tallmadge’s best player in 2015 leave 5 games into JR year to go to Hoban? Turmoil in coaching staff. Never came off the field and was getting killed running ball 30 times a game and playing both ways. Only to lose almost every game.

I don't think this rule is aimed at football. It may impact it, but I think it's aimed at the AAU basketball teams that all decide to go play together and win a state title.

You are probably right. They should address this problem then. I see full teams being assembled in basketball and they are definitely being recruited from AAU. You may see football teams benefiting from on or two players but not enough transfers to win a title.

Are you freaking serious, How the hell do you think Hoban went from barely competing with anybody when Tyrell arrived to winning 3 state titles in a row.

Pointless paperwork, I transferred so no tournament seems like maybe the pettiest rule ever proposed.
