Oregon woman arrested for towing kids in a wagon behind her car
Quote:
A Springfield woman was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment after multiple drivers reported a car towing three children -- her 2-year-old daughter, 4-year-old son and 8-year-old nephew -- in a small, plastic red wagon going around a busy roundabout multiple times during rush hour.
Police were not initially aware of the third child and a third charge is now pending.
This story was first reported by The Register-Guard.
Lt. Scott McKee, a spokesperson for Springfield Police Department, said Friday over the phone that Alana Nicole Donahue, 27, admitted to officers that she was towing children behind her white Ford Taurus in a wagon attached with a rope.

It's not like you can return them to the hospital - may as well get them taken away ? I guess that they were too big to leave swaddled in a basket on the front steps of a church or fire station like the movies........they might have found their way home.
I'd love to see an interview with the father of the children.

Look at the geometry in that pic. Say that older vehicle is on it original shocks. A quick panic stop by the driver could raise that rear bumper and leave it up long enough for the wagon to slide under. She could have ended one of those kids without dumping them out of the wagon or having another vehicle involved.

She should have just put them in the trunk, as any sane person would do.

Vacation!
This is just another example of the wussification of America. Back in the day, Ma'd drive down the brick road so we could tow behind on our skateboards. If we fell, stupid us.

Exactly.... I also did the skateboard thing and back then those skateboards were not made like they are now a days.... hanging on for dear life...
We also attached lawnmower wheels to crates or whatever we could build and go down big hills always forgetting to build a brake....
No car seats, no bicycle helmets, seat belts optional... heck... I don't even remember to many overweight people back in the day..... of course we only had 3 channels to choose from and one had to go to the truck stop to play video games which was basically pin ball..... I missed those days... come get me Marty McFly and send me back!!!!!!

LOL - I did the "holding onto your buddy's bicycle while you're wearing roller skates" thing a few times, but one big spill, a few inches of peeled skin, and the indescribably feeling of Mom pouring rubbing alcohol straight on the wounds cured me of that.
That reminds me: do "big kids" still do the Breaking Away thingy where they draft behind semis?

I've watched a couple of my former riding buddies manage that. For one guy, it was a FedEx delivery truck. For the other, it was a short flatbed truck carrying a load of wooden pallets. I've heard of other riders drafting farm tractors on country roads. They can be a welcome sight if you've been battling headwind for miles.
I can't accelerate a bicycle fast enough at the start to stay inside the truck's wake.

Vamp I want to go back with you. Don't forget when a car got stuck in the snow and you dug them out and then they pulled you down the road to do some ice/snow surfing.
