Darby D-1 District Rankings (Off-Season #2)

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

I started moving wrestlers up and down from their previous year’s weights. The new weights are partially based off of where they’ve been wrestling in the off season, though a lot of it is pure guesswork at this time.
Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

I’ve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if I’m forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

-The schools of the incoming freshmen are based off of the previous Yappi thread. Please let me know if any are wrong or have changed.

5. Westerville North
6. Olentangy
7. Coffman
8. Davidson

Lancaster looks like an excellent squad that should be deep from top to bottom. The addition of middle school state placer Reed and middle school state champ Norwood should have them in contention for a district title.

I’m sure that I’m missing some of the potential Liberty placers, but I was informed that Andrew Donahue, who I previously had listed among the middle school state placers, was still in middle school for another year.
The team will be in contention for yet another district title, but the test will be must more stern this season after walking away with the title last year.

Marysville has a trio of wrestlers who could claim district titles in Heard, Marsh, and Connolly. They also have a plethora of other wrestlers that will be contending for district placement on a team that should be formidable in dual meets with their impressive depth.

Upper Arlington could land as many as 6 state qualifiers this season, especially if freshman Geog develops into an immediate impact performer.
Herren will be another to keep an eye on as a state qualification contender as he returns from injury.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Inside the Circle for all of their great coverage and promotion of the Central District, Baum’s Page and Jake’s Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

Good stuff, McLearn. Appreciate the work.

I'm curious as to people's thoughts on Ball making 182. If he's there, I think 182 is the most stacked weight in the district (best 1-4 anyway, along with 113).

152 look better than 113, Marsh should be a force to reckon with.

I agree that 152 is stronger than 113 at the #1-2 spots, but I think 1-4 that 113 is stronger. Just MHO.

Marysville is in a tough spot assuming their sectional goes north. Do the stay home and go north or do they go to another sectional?

I suspect they stay home for sectionals and have the same 4 SQ (Heard, Marsh, Bates, and Connolly) but maybe not any District champs. Do not think going north opens a SQ opportunity for anyone.

A few notes...Luke Geog @ 132 will be in 8th grade similar to Donahue not at UA. James White at Olentangy instead of D Hayes. Also, Will Harris from Tri-Valley 2016 SQ was injured last year but am pretty sure he is wrestling @ 126 Junior Olympics but I have not seen an updated roster. But assuming that's the case definitely should be in the mix. Great read though...guessing will prolly see lots of movement first 3 weight classes at least

Although Nate Frye from Reynoldsburg was only a junior last season, he has graduated early, so is no longer wrestling. By the way, good luck today at Fargo Nate!

Ha Ha..Watterson doesn't even have a wrestling team. I would be willing to bet that Luke ends up at Liberty, could be wrong. It would be nice to see him stay at UA, that have so much young talent.

It looks like Ashland and Madison have been added to the central district.

Pinem, Also Lima Senior will be at Marysville as well. And Chillicothe will be coming in as well. Just wonder if they'll go into the selection or go with an automatic.

Cruiser has posted on the Inside the Circle site that Whitehall-Yearling will be hosting the 5th CD sectional and volunteered to be the predetermined sectional going to the NW.

https://itcrankings.wixsite.com/insi...has-been-named

Interesting move but guessing Whitehall-Yearling wanted to keep a sectional as they moved up from D2 and by volunteering to be the one to go to the NW that makes it likely compared to someone else wanting the sectional but not wanting to go to the NW. Not sure if that is final as Cruiser has not posted here so who knows.

For Ashland/Mansfield Madison not much travel difference compared to Marysville, a little longer for Lima.

Regarding the out of district Schools they are generally placed in a Sectional close to them (Logan, Zanesville, and Tri-Valley at Newark or Watkins Memorial) and the seed selections are around them. This year it appears that Zanesville dropped to D2 and Chillicothe comes up to D1. Chillicothe not as natural fit to Newark or Watkins as Zanesville so they are just as likely to end up at Upper Arlington or Marysville as Newark or Watkins.

McLearn, I love your ambition you have for wrestling! I love your promotion of the sport. Keep up the good work, even though your weight classes are only predictions. I wish some of my wrestlers were at the weight classes you've predicted. : )

for those of you arguing the 1-2 strength and what weight classes are tough.

1. 152
2. 160
3. 182

4. 145 & 170
5. 113 & 195

dosent get much better then the top three weights above. mattox and carson k have some of the best hips and scramble ability in the country as does brady and marsh. 4 of the more exciting wrestlers to watch! i am sure we will see many changes before march.

bluepride, Just because Whitehall is hosting doesn't necessarily mean that they will stay at the sectional. Still an option to leave and go elsewhere. Same goes for the others, Tri-Valley went into the selection process last year. I could definitely see Chillicothe, Tri-Valley and Logan select this year. With Ashland, Madison and Lima, I believe they are being placed in their respected sectional.

Ucker is not at Whetstone to my knowledge. However I. Sessay who was 1-2 at districts at 160 is and hes probably back at 160 also placed fourth last year at central crossing tournament at a loaded weight. Might be one to keep an Eye on.
