Women's US Open

I find it incredibly funny that this week, the US Women's Open, an event that gets little headlines even during slow sports news times, is suddenly mired in controversy not because of golf...but because they chose to have the event at...get ready for this...a golf course owned by Donald Trump...

At what point will we get over this nonsense?? Yes, Trump made some unfortunate remarks about women and minorities during the campaign that was blown out of proportion. Even with that, he was voted in as President and isn't it time to just turn the page?

I'm almost sure someone who's alot smarter than me could go back and show all the hundreds of thousands of great jobs that women and minorities have got and still have while employed by Trump companies.

But I do give most of the golfers credit, they understand where their bread is buttered. Many in the media have tried to engage them into making some kind of disparaging remarks about Trump or the USGA's decision to have the event there. But most are pretty smart and again, understand how things work. Unlike a guy like say...Colin Kaepernik, who shoots from the hip and really doesn't understand what a privilege it is to be a professional athlete and all the opportunities afforded to him.

...I'd rather watch paint dry than watch women's golf.

Nah, just people who complain about silly things that deal with sports (mainly liberal thinkers), and people who never post original thoughts or ideas on message boards, they just criticize other's thoughts and opinions...sound familiar??

So you complain about people who complain about silly things that deal with sports? Oh, okay. Yeah, it does sound familiar. All you do is complain and never give an original thought.

No, not exactly, and if i have to explain it, you'd never understand. You've got to have better things to do with your time than troll on message boards and never espouse anything original...

That's exactly what you're doing. You complain about sports. In the last 24 hours you've complained about the Women's US Open, The HR Derby, The All Star Game and the praise Aaron Judge has received for leading the league in home runs at age 25 in his rookie year.

Just because you keep repeating yourself, doesn't make it true. In the last week I've made ~15 posts that could be considered "original thoughts" and not making fun of you and IndianDad.

“Black guys counting my money! I hate it”

Next in the Trump record on race came a 1991 book by John O’Donnell, who had been president of Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. O’Donnell quoted Trump saying,“ Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys wearing yarmulkes… Those are the only kind of people I want counting my money. Nobody else…Besides that, I tell you something else. I think that’s guy’s lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks.”

O’Donnell’s report was shocking, but Trump did not contest it at the time. In 1997 he was interviewed for Playboy by author Mark Bowden and he confirmed that the O’Donnell book was “probably true.”

They made the deal with Trump years ago. No reason or grounds to back out now. The guy owns some of the top golf properties in the world and they are properties upon which to play a game, not engage in political discourse. The top tournaments have been played on country club courses for years (with the rare exception of places like Bethpage and Torrey Pines) and these places and their well-healed clientele certainly haven't been bastions of well-rounded political thought.

Any story from anyone sounds super believable about Trump anymore, but he basically confirmed this one, so.....

I wouldn't say he basically confirmed it. It sounds like the interviewer was asking him in a general sense about the book, not that specific passage. And we all know Donald doesn't read.

Regardless, there's zero real evidence Trump has actually discriminated against women or minorities. If that's the basis for not wanting the Women's US Open played at his course, then there's essentially no case.

you sound like lotr now.

I didn't say the US Open should move the event, a contract is a contract, but there's no doubt he has made misogynistic and racist remarks.

Not at all. Someone asked what Trump has said about minorities, so I posted a quote from a book he endorsed as true.

Like I said, doesn't seem believable. And regardless, he has a pretty solid track record of employing women & minorities.

Plenty to criticize Trump about, but the racist/misogynist stuff is basically the realm of the BJ's of the world.

Well, maybe he shouldn't have endorsed the book and comment as true then. In any event, he's an universally acknowledged misogynist based on his comments about women.

The "universally acknowledged" misogynist got 42% of the female vote, running against a woman. Not bad.

Yes, he did. Are you seriously denying he's made misogynistic comments though? Or just pointing out that 42% of women preferred a misogynist over Hillary Clinton?

"Misogynistic comments" doesn't equal misogynist.

He has a solid track record of promoting women within his organization. That's a little more important to determining whether someone hates women than a few comments you decided to get offended by.

No one said he discriminates against women in the workplace, although there are a lot of harassment complaints.

One is a legal requirement to not discriminate in employment; the other is how he treats and feels about women. Pretty easy to understand. In any event, what is his track record in employing minorities and women (not related to him) in higher level of his organization?
