Hoover/Mentor D-1 District Rankings (Off Season #2)

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

I started moving wrestlers up and down from their previous year’s weights. The new weights are partially based off of where they’ve been wrestling in the off season, though a lot of it is pure guesswork at this time.
Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

I’ve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if I’m forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

-The schools of the incoming freshmen are based off of the previous Yappi thread. Please let me know if any are wrong or have changed.

Perry has all of its started back from 170-220, and former middle school state placer Millen got some starting time at heavyweight last year before Carrick returned, so I assume that everyone will be back at those weights.
It’s possible that Soehnlen moves up to 182 after jumping from 138 to 152 to 170 over his first 3 years. Carr didn’t look big at 152, though I can’t always tell, so I assume he’ll be at 152 or 160 for the season.

Louisville looks like a very good young team, adding middle school state finalist Rhoads to a squad that returned state placer Leonard as well at former middle school state placers Mickley and Paulus.

I saw a note that the Fields had switched schools though I didn’t see where, so I assumed that they’re back at Brunswick where Matt wrestled as a freshman.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baum’s Page and Jake’s Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

Great write up, as usual. Some thoughts about Wadsworth from what I've been hearing: upper wts. look about right Mason might go 170, might depend on whether another kid goes out. Think Carmany will be at 120 which puts Hacker at 126. Messner(sp) will probably be at 132, don't think he can make 126 (he looked very tough at Youngstown). Placed 4th or 5th in a super tough wt. class. There are a couple of varsity "B" kids that might be ready. Hearing North is going 145.

If the sectionals are grouped the same as last year, Lakeside will go to Perrysburg which was the Mentor District last year.
This district will be the all northeast district which will either be at Hoover again or Mentor (TBD).

Thought I seen where Copley was going to be D2 also. I'm not 100% on that one but thought I seen them moving.

Chad Gilmore is doing a nice job at Medina. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Yarbrough and Lewarchick will be interesting at 106.

Both maybe "small" 106'ers next year (meaning they won't be cutting to get to 106), but Yarbrough will be even smaller. Marlon may not have ever cut a pound through GS and JH because his dad knows he is smaller and didn't want to hurt any growth spurts.

So, when he wrestled 84 at this year's OAC, he was definitely walking around at 84 or less. I hope he hits a good growth spurt because the kid is athletic as all get out, is a great wrestler, and a really good kid (I understand he is a straight A student too). He is always smiling and just loves to wrestle. Giving up 20+ lbs next season maybe too much to deal with, so I truly hope he grows some.

Lewarchick won't have near the size problem that Yarbrough will, but will still be smaller than many of the "big" 106'ers at the top of the district/state level.

I know if it comes down to what you have listed here, a Yarbrough/Lewarchick go/no go to state next season at districts, it would be a great match, they practice together a lot and always have good/close battles.

I see Mikey being big enough next year and placing top 3. Marlon would be top 3 if big enough. Only way I see these two in go to match if to small. Mikey will be big enough. I bet he weighs in the low teens now but not sure. Marlon was small and will really have to beef up.

He may, my boy has taken off since Virginia Beach other than lifting, so the last time I saw Mike was the Wednesday before Memorial day, he said he was finally up over 100lb, something like 104. He could be low teens now, wouldn't surprise me, my kid has put on another 5 lb since then (up12 since OAC in March).

I hope Marlon grows, he is such a fun wrestler to watch and him and Mike are always smiling while on the mat. There was a period of about 5 years that my son and Marlon wrestled each other every season...then my kid grew.
