I have read that two of Dr. John's biggest fans were none other than Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger. Just think if Lennon/McCartney would also have been fans they could have dedicated " Day Tripper" to the Night Tripper.

It appears my latest trivia quiz has now exceeded it's shelf life. I've completed
the remaining 5 unanswered questions and they are listed on post # 3080.

Glad Bevo is back, but sorry to hear of his computer problems. Hopefully, he can eventually join in on this quiz. It's one of our traditional, old-fashioned trivia quizzes: hoops and music. As usual, there is NO GOOGLING and only THREE GUESSES are permitted. After the update on Sunday morning, more guesses will be allowed.

American Basketball Association - Identify the college at which the following ABA players participated:

1. Marvin "Bad News" Barnes, Providence (coldshoulder)
2. Zelmo Beatty, Prairie View A&M ("JB")
3. Mel Daniels, New Mexico (coldshoulder)
4. Connie Hawkins, Iowa (80greyhound)
5. Artis Gilmore, Jacksonville (Monclova Steve)

7. Larry Kenon, Memphis State (coldshoulder)
8. Larry Jones, Toledo ("JB")
9. Billy Knight, Pitt (coldshoulder)
10. Spencer Haywood, Detroit (Monclova Steve)

Extra-Credit
A. Although he never played college basketball, at what school did Roger Brown sign a letter-of-intent before being banned for alleged point-shaving charges?
Dayton (BlackHawk)

Lyrics - Identify the 1960s' songs in which these lyrics appeared:

11. How could they know just what this message means... "No Milk Today", Herman's Hermits (Zunardo)
12. The six o'clock alarm would never ring... "Daydream Believer", The Monkees (EagleGuy)
13. I know I stand in line until you think you have the time to spend an evening with me... "Something Stupid", Frank and Nancy Sinatra ("JB")
14. I was out choppin' cotton, and my brother was balin' hay... "Ode to Billie Joe", Bobbie Gentry ("JB")
15. Hey, what's that sound... "For What It's Worth", Buffalo Springfield (EagleGuy with help from coldshoulder)
16. Imagine me and you, I do... "Happy Together", The Turtles (coldshoulder)
17. And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all... "White Rabbit", Jefferson Airplane ("JB")
18. People in motion, people in motion... "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)", Scott McKensie ("JB")
19. There beneath the blue suburban skies... "Penny Lane", The Beatles (EagleGuy)
20. Through the mirror of my mind... "Reflections", The Supremes ("JB")

Extra-Credit
B. When we called out for another drink the waiter brought a tray...
"A Whiter Shade Of Pale", Procol Harum (BlackHawk)

16. Imagine me and you, I do...
17. And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all...
18. People in motion, people in motion...
19. There beneath the blue suburban skies... Penny Lane, of course, Beatles
20. Through the mirror of my mind...

I think the group will do well (or, is it good - haha) with this section. I recognize a few others, but either don't know the song or group or both!

BTW, The Beatles >>> The Monkees

16. So Happy Together -- The Turtles

...And technically (I think), the correct song title to #15 is "For What It's Worth"

We have more correct entries by "JB", 80greyhound and Monclova Steve. 80greyhound's mention of Connie Hawkins' college (Iowa) might surprise some folks, but Connie actually played freshman ball for the Hawkeyes. The Iowa coach who recruited Connie Hawkins to Iowa was Sharm Scheuerman. Sharm is relatively well-known in the Cincinnati area since he headed the Athletes in Action basketball team (housed in Lebanon and Xenia).

If you haven't made any guesses on Sunday, you get three more attempts before midnight tonight.

"JB"
14. "Ode To Billy Joe" - Bobbie Gentry
17. "White Rabbit" - Jefferson Airplane
18. "San Francisco, (Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair) - Scott McKenzie

80greyhound
4. Connie Hawkins - Iowa
25. Vincent Furnier - Alice Cooper
29. Reginald Dwight - Elton John

Monclova Steve
5. Artis Gilmore, Jacksonville
10. Spencer Haywood, Detroit

The answers have been updated on the original post, #3099.

On a completely different subject, I hope that Bevo is watching TV. Yes, he does have computer problems, but I hope he was able to watch The Basketball Tournament this afternoon. The Scarlett & Gray, a team composed of former Buckeye players, defeated the Golden Eagles (former Marquette players) 81-56 in the quarterfinals of The Basketball Tournament in NYC.

It was rather interesting to watch Aaron Craft, Jon Diebler, Jared Sullinger and some other ex-Buckeyes playing together. The Scarlet & Gray will now play in the semi-finals of the tournament in Baltimore. This is the tournament that pays $2,000,000 - winner take all. Below are a couple of links for those who are interested:

The Basketball Tournament
https://www.thetournament.com/

Scarlett & Gray Roster
https://www.thetournament.com/teams/...versity-alumni

As far as the trivia quiz, we still need to correctly answer: 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 20, 23, 24, 26, 30 and Extra-Credit questions "A", "B" and "C". See Post #3099 for the latest update.

ROCK ON!

EagleGuy - You are more than welcome. Yes, it did seem weird watching basketball on TV in late July. One thing that can definitely be said about The Basketball Tournament...it offers motivation ($2M).

BlackHawk and Gardens35 both chipped in with correct answers to get us closer to completing this trivia quiz. BlackHawk's mention of Roger Brown's signing with Dayton gives us an idea of just how big the UD basketball was "back in the day". I heard from an excellent source that the Flyers were also on Wilt Chamberlain's "short-list" when he graduated from high school. It's good to see Dayton back among the winners in college basketball, especially in the area of attendance. What a basketball town!

As usual, an excellent job by "JB". Sorry that you barely missed posting on Saturday night or you'd have three more guesses today. Anyway, you are spot-on with your answers to #8, #13 and #20. The fact that #8 Larry Jones stayed "on the board" so long is just more proof that a few of us are definitely on the list of "dinosaurs" (but not yet extinct).

We still need to correctly answer: #2, 6, 11, 23, 24, 26, 30 and extra-credit "C". If these questions aren't correctly answered by 6:00 pm (Monday), the limit for number of guesses will be dropped.

OWK,

I was also surprised that Larry Jones stayed "on the board" so long. Equally surprised that #2 Zelmo Beatty is still not answered, affirming your"dinosaur theory" for sure, lol. Larry Jones was one of the many players over the years that played for the Columbus East Tigers in HS.

Since we are on the topic of Larry Jones, he has one distinct claim to fame during his ABA career while he was with the Denver Rockets. Can you recall what it was ?

"JB" - You have me on this one! I saw Larry Jones play vs. Akron in the early 1960s and he was a really good one. As for his career with Denver, all I know is that he was an All-ABA player. As far as a "distinct claim", I have no clue. Good question and I'll be interested in the answer.
