Congrats to Lakota East, great job . Tournament ran smooth . Put your toe on the line, let's go. Wrestled straight thru. One small break to move mats around. I loved it.

Certainly a statement by Mason as to where they stand in the Cinci pecking order. Dominated a Fairfield team that was pretty good all year.

Mason very solid. Program is loaded. Coaching stAff has done a great job. It's not been all roses tho 14 yrs ago they had 17 wrestlers. So hats off to them. Pecking order around here is short.

I wanted to see the Mason team compete. My takeaway: Was looking forward to seeing the younger Donathan in action. He did not disappoint. The older one won a bracket of multiple state qualifiers teching everyone. The 113 is a legit district threat. D'Agostino shows up when he needs to. Schuster is going to surprise some guys in Columbus. Mason clearly had a bad night in their regionals. They were clearly heads above Fairfield.
Outside Mason; Traub is a man-beast. I can't wait to see Sams v Ward. Bria looks tough. If you saw the Buis v Sper match you got your moneys worth. Although I still don't understand the call.

This match had everything no doubt about it. If the call you're referring to was the penalty point after regulation, it was for the extra pushing. Probably could have called it on either guy but was called on Sper.

With the match not being completed until a hand is raised, it was a match point and not a team point going against Sper thus sending the match into OT.

Entertaining to say the least and these 2 guys will see each other at sectionals.

Kudos to Murnan & Co. on the title. Kids looked dominant all the way through. It's a real treat watching Hood at 113 as well as both Donathans.

For those interested ----
Coach of the Year = Laflin
Wrestlers of the Year = Traub

Bad night at regionals? How so? Who was suppose to win that didnt against Moeller?

Like I said, probably could've pointed either guy. Both are likely the #2 & #3 seeds at sectionals (Huntley the #1), and hopefully we see cooler heads. The wrestling in that match was fun to watch though.

I didn't realize the rule " match not completely over until the hand is raised. " I have seen Alot of team points taken away, but hardly any given after time was out to a wrestler. What a entertaining match. Kudos to both wrestlers for heart they showed. The whole match was intense, but the last 30 seconds was worth the price of admission.

Moe01, from a coaching perspective I definitely wouldn't say we lost because we had a bad night...it was just a bad night for Mason in a sense that we had 4 key swing matches, and we knew we had to win 2 of them to put ourselves in a position to win that dual. Moeller won all 4, all in the last 30 seconds or so. Moeller gutted out all the close matches where there were matchups of better kids on each team. I look at it more of a good match for Moeller than a bad night for Mason. Our kids were very disappointed, but they obviously responded pretty well 3 days later. I wouldn't say it was Mason so much bad or off as much as I would say Moeller found a way to win where they had to.

Prehaps this is a one year fluke. However, I watched the GMC wrestling tournament this year and with the exception of Mason and Fairfield there where no other teams there. Teams 3 thru 10 would receive D's meaning as teams they were below average. Of course, each of those teams had one or two wrestlers that are very talented.

Every year there are 3 or 4 teams that are rebuilding, I understand that, but not 8. I hope it is simply a fluke and not a sign of the future of GMC wrestling.
This is not one of Mason's better teams over the last 7 years and yet they earned 234 points. Congratulations to Mason for the win they deserve it. But I hope what I saw yesterday is not the standard for the GMC Wrestling Tournament in the future.

Not just a GMC problem, but every conference when you view results of other conference tournaments and similar outlook. Some brackets had only 4 wrestlers. The sectional tournaments will look just as bleak. Wrestling is losing it's beauty. Media don't wanna print results; the Cincinnati Enquire used to be good for that. What happened? Cut backs?

You should apply at those schools central offices, strap it up and take a head coaching job..then you can work your magic to improve those programs for schools #3-10. I mean some of these coaches have been doing it FOR YEARS and need to step away and let internet coaches like yourself have a shot at glory.

I don't have a ton of time to coach but I do want to chime in on this in regards to "schools 3-10."

I couldn't disagree more.

Sycamore did a great job... I think they surprised many finishing third.
Princeton is doing an amazing job. If people don't see that then they are blind. This team will compete with you when they step on the mat. I was more impressed with Princeton than anyone.
Middletown deserves a shout out. That staff is rebuilding a program that was run into the ground and tossed aside. Hats off to them for committing the time and energy to keep a program alive and rebuild it from the ground up. Outsiders don't realize that the program had 3 wrestlers at the end of last year.

As a whole it may not seem like we have a ton of depth in the GMC right now, but I do think we have some great coaches leading their teams.

And if Oak Hills hadn't had 2 injury scratches with 2 of their best kids, that would have given them potential points for 2 more finalists.

Brennan Ryan
Brennan,
The difference in the two duals between Mason and Moe were pretty simple and came down to four things.
1 - Jordan Ward made weight
2 - Summerous was in the line up
3 - Thompson was in the line up
4 - Hensley flipped it by 9

Other than that, all of the matches from the previous meeting had the same results. Hensley was the only loss that became a win and Moe erased the FF at 113.

Congrats to Mason on their team title!!! I'm disappointed the Crusaders didn't respond as well in their conference tourney.
Should be one hell of a battle at Districts.

Special to congrats to the former Blue Devil Coach Pletz for keeping Sycamore in the hunt!!

I was overly impressed with watching the younger Donathan wrestle. He was probably given a gift with some horrible officiating in his semi match against Quinn (LE). I do mean a gift, but with that being said, he will be a force to be reckon with for a long time. I know older brother is great but he was very impressive to watch, and think he's already majorly improved during his Freshman year.

Big D, having Moeller at full strength and on weight was absolutely a huge difference. With that said, there were still 4 matchups where there wasn't a big difference between the 2 sides. We had to win 2 of the 4. Moeller did their job in all 4, won all 4, won the dual, definitely earned it with the better showing.
