One of the facilities that can viably hold the event (either Charlotte or Raleigh) needs to bid for it.

The next cycle of bids is for 2023-2026, and will be decided on in (I think) 2021.

2020 is looking fantastic!
DII finals in cozy Sioux Falls! No worries though because the DI finals are in balmy Minneapolis! Or maybe you'll be off to tropical Cedar Rapids for the DIII finals!

Think Global Warming.......
all 3 places will be sunny and upper 80's in mid March by 2020

But on a more serious note, I don't see many warm weather destinations for D1. I visited Cleveland this weekend (fabulous weekend), and I left my swim suit and sandals at home.
D1...
2018 - Cleveland
2019 - Pittsburgh
2020 - Minneapolis
2021 - St. Louis
2022 - Detroit

It seems as though warm weather destinations are not a high priority for the committee.

Pennsylvania is #1 with 11 D-I universities.

North Carolina is #2 with 7*. NC is a worthy and an easy choice! Oh, and a warmer alternative!

* UNC, Duke, NCST, Campbell, GWU, APPST, and Davidson.

and why should it be...those areas GENERALLY do not support wrestling at the college level.

It's right where it needs to be...in the Midwest.

Team Scores:

1 Penn State 141.5
2 Ohio State 134.5
3 Iowa 97.0
4 Michigan 80.0
4 NC State 80.0
6 Missouri 61.5

Seems like the Midwest is currently the mecca for college wrestling

So 83% (5 of top 6) of the top programs are in the Midwest.

And 17% (1 of top 6) are in the Southeast.

Which fan bases shall we cater to? The 83% or the 17%?

Based on the next 4, and the most recent, we are catering to the Midwest. No problem by me! I also see no issue with going to the state that holds the second-highest number of D-I institutions that offer men’s wrestling.

I'm not opposed to change and in fact I've complained in the past about Ohio high school D1 football championship games almost always (1 exception was early '80's in Cincy) being in Norhteast Ohio or Cbus.

As far as the ncaa wrestling tourney is concerned, I wonder if the event centers/arena's in North Carolina are interested enough to even bid on the event.

Charlotte is a great city and would be a nice location for it. Spectrum Center where the Hornets play holds 19,077 which is in line with the size of venue that the NCAA likes to have.

How about Vegas? Cheap flights and tons of options for hotels, food, entertainment, etc...Does it really matter if it's not in the Midwest as long as it's accessible to everyone for a relatively decent price? People will come to the event regardless of where it's at because of the event not the locale.

But if it's in Vegas people will come for BOTH reasons!

I can guarantee Las Vegas hotels will be much cheaper than Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Detroit hotels were/will be. Downtown CLE prices were $300+ a night IF you could even find a room. In Las Vegas they are having big events all the time so prices don't fluctuate as much.

*T-Mobile Arena holds 18,000-20,000
*Thomas & Mack Center 19,522
*MGM Grand Garden Arena 16,800
*Las Vegas Stadium 65,000 (Opens in 2020)
Will be the new home of the Raiders scheduled to be ready for the 2020 football season. It's a $1.8 billion dollar facility. If the NCAA wrestling tournament in 2020 is successful in the Vikings US Bank Stadium ($1 billion dollar facility) which holds 66,655 maybe the NCAA will consider other indoor football facilities for the wrestling tournament.

Maybe 2023 Vegas is a possibility?

Check out the video of the Las Vegas Stadium. Wow. That place is going to be impressive!

I think Cleveland represented extremely well, and the Cleveland Sports Commission and all who were involved should be applauded. The location is perfect - plenty of restaurants, hotels and bars close by, and the Q was just perfect for the event. No way should it be another 20 years before it is back in the "land"..

Agree 100%. This was my first visit to Cleveland since 1970 and I can't wait to return. Upon leaving the Q, my buddies and I would simply walk across the street to the bar and/or restaurant of our choice for a beer and some college hoops. Great time!

QLA in Cleveland (grades of good, fair or poor)
Arena - good
Parking - good
Location - good
Bars - good
Restaurants - good
Hotels - no grade as we stayed in a very nice 2 bedroom airbnb 5 minutes away from the arena.
Now if MyMar beats Nickal and osu wins the team race, everything is great!
