NEW RANKINGS - July 23

Rankings can be found here: www.borofanohio.net

Deepest Weights:
D1: 113/138/160/170
D2: 113/120/170/285
D3: 120/138/145/220

106 and the upper weights are always the hardest to tab in the pre-season. It’s difficult to project who will return to 106 and it also seems some struggle early-on due to the size difference. It’s tough to project weights for the returnees at 182-195-220 due to there being such a big gap in-between the weights. Out of the approximately 135 coaches I emailed requesting a projected lineup, I received about 75 back, so some weights are estimated guesses.

The D1 team race should be fantastic! Could this be the year someone outside of NE Ohio finally wins the big school division?

Any weight changes/projected lineups/transfers/etc. PLEASE EMAIL ME: borofanohio@gmail.com, PM me on here or fill out a contact form on the bottom of each set of individual rankings.

Updates: Due to all of the emails I have received the past few years in the first week of releasing rankings, I will update rankings twice a day (Noon and 11pm) thru the end of July.

Thanks!

Typical Borofan, already making excuses for when all Top 8 in his rankings don't finish in that exact order. Blaming coaches and wrestlers for HIS mistakes is a real shame.

Thanks for your work anyways

Haven’t been able to confirm with someone at TC, but that’s what I received recently from 2 different people.

I found a few results where Troy Christian was listed as his club/team.

Love your stuff BoroFan. Looking at the D1 race, I've got this for team points using advancement and placement points (no bonus). Bonus points would add to the scores below.

LAS 169
SE 156
ELY 115
BRCK 78

Obviously, rankings in July will be different than results next March. And sprinkle in bonus points and that changes things as well. It does appear at this time, however, that the race may be between LAS and SE.

I think it's been since 1970, when Tol St Francis DeSales edged out Maple Heights by 6 points, that a team not from NE OH won D1. And in 1970 it was all one division. DeSales also won the one division race in 1964, and tiny Bridgeport led by the legendary Bobby Douglas won the one division race in 1959. All other D1/One Division champs have been NE OH. Since the turn of the century, only Perrysburg (Toledo area) and Moeller have been as high as runner-up, although not close to the eventual champions, Mass Perry & SE, in those years.

BTW, BoroFan, do you care to reveal your secret sauce for team points, or is a highly guarded trade secret? If you would have to kill me if you tell me, I'd just as soon not know. You have some sort of bonus calculations figured in but I'm not sure what it is.

And a little more D1 history...

The closest any SW OH team has come to winning a D1 title was in 1976. That team was LaSalle, led by state champ, Neal Neyer. They finished 4th, just 4.5 points behind Cleveland Heights.

Hard to believe that D1 is that top heavy, but its still believable based on rosters I guess.
St. Eds wrestlers will be the most battle tested for the Schott based on their schedule- so with extra credit there or as Bdhof says- "secret sauce,", should be closer with a peak LaSalle team.
But Elyria has been and continues to be a formidable Team. Heck, I don't know.

Huge I don't think that will be the dual you want to go see. The dual in Columbus will be an indicator of what is to come in March. I don't expect to see much from the Eagles in December. In fact, I expect LaSalle to win that dual (as of today) but double digits. But then again it's only July so a lot can change between now and then. Either way these two teams are the class in D1.

True, BTW: I see a real power has risen in the East with that Lisbon team. Glad to see Givens is back. Pieces are falling into place for an OVAC title and State run.

bdhof - It's a secret. The basis is the average points scored for each placement (1st,2nd,3rd,etc.). That's all I can say

Rankings have been updated www.borofanohio.net

I counted over 20 changes (Quite a few were changes to the Graham lineup).

Boro will have to become a mass murdered since we all saw it. I think you are in the clear.

I don't know, based on his answer, if he is counting advancement/bonus points for those that win a match but don't place (you place if you win 2). So those that are ranked 9-12 would fall in that category of gaining at least a couple points for their team (1 minimum if no bonus and win is in consi's, max of 4 if win is in championships and a pin).

9 and 10 - I usually give 3 points
11 and 12 - I usually give 2 points
13 thru 15 or 20 - get 1 point (Although you do not get points for qualifying and then going 0-2)

I do tinker with my point system when it comes to heavy favorites. For example, Kollin Moore his senior year was always projected for 28 points instead of the normal 25 pts. for 1st (The average is just under 25...like 24.77 or something similar). 30 pts is the maximum a state champ can assume.

Heard and Donathan both listed at 152. That would be possibly difficult for these two or their families as they have been real close for years and years. Should be a good match if it comes to fruition. But the one scenario that could change this is if Donathan transfers in to La Salle and goes 160. Makes sense to me and would likely put La Salle over the top.

Enough with the Donathan/La Salle conversation ....

The Donathan's are NOT coming to La Salle ... you can put that to bed. They are telling everyone they are staying at Mason and I believe them.

A Heard/Donathan matchup will be hard for the boys and families ... but I think it would be harder if it were E. Heard and it likely won't be ... I saw D. Heard at the beginning of the summer and he was already much larger than his brother.

LaSalle not doing Ironman this year. Don’t see them on team list. Is this a mistake or are they going somewhere else

Donathan would've had to transfer before the new rules went into effect or he'd have to sit out the second half and postseason. Don't see him qualifying for an exemption outside a physical move. I don't think Donathan and Heard being at the same weight would be much of an issue. There's a good chance they wouldn't see each other until Districts and would most likely be on opposite sides of the bracket at State. Their families will remain close and root for the other.

Rankings have been updated - www.borofanohio.net (I think I counted 8 or so changes again since last night).

Starting with tonight's update - I will list the weights that have changes to them on here to make it easier for everyone (The amount of changes seem to be slowing down now)

Thanks!

Looks like another good year for the Kettering district; possibly 30 to 35 placers.
