LOL, not getting the running clock treatment in a regional final is where i see the ceiling this year. But I think Boardman can get there if they make the playoffs on the opposite side of Hoban. Thing is, this region may not be very deep if Hudson loses this weekend and Benedictine struggles a bit. And the inner-ring schools don't worry me.

I think the O line has got to get better to become a solid playoff contender

This is my 74th year of watching high school football, and I have seen just about everything. I think Boardman has the athletes to take down the Giant.

I worry a little that we have too many guys going both ways and some of them are playing almost every play...
I count at least 5 or 6.

Yep. An injury to a starter or 2, especially on the lines and this season could be derailed. The pass defense will always worry me as long as a Popio is still calling the defense but we'll see.

I've seen absolute power houses have as many as 8 guys going both ways.

Looks like only 2 linemen go both ways. I'm not as worried about secondary guys. And Miller and Huzicka seem to split time at tight end/H back. Putting Rodriguez as the primary tailback also would free things up on the defense. It isn't much different from last year upon further review.
I must say I like the secondary/wideout group. We pretty much had to replace everyone in this group from last season.

WR's definitely look good. Passing game as a whole, TE's and RB's as a whole impress me. The O-Line worries me a little but we'll see as the year goes on.

Big games this weekend. Jackson for the varsity and JVs head to McKinley to play the Pups. Will learn a lot this weekend.

This team doesn’t have the depth to make a serious run. Too many guys playing both ways. Especially on the lines. Getting worn down.

Probably looking at 5-5, impressed with the Jackson defense though, and Jake Ryan.. but the turning point was on Jackson's last series at the end of the third quarter when they finally were
able to move the ball on the ground. They didn't score on that series but flipped the field and continued to wear them out.

Yeah, not looking like they will beat Mooney, Canfield or Fitch. Not big or tough enough in the trenches. Ieraci hurt again... Wonder if they'd be better off with Martin at QB who can run and move a little. O'Horo doesn't look right.

Why didn't they play Miller more on offense? He was quite a fixture last week...I don't think he was in at all.
We're just too inconsistent. They come out of the locker room and go right down the field in 2 minutes and then nothing...
I really feel bad for Ieraci. He's a great player, leaves it all out there, but I'm worried he's a ticking time bomb away from another serious knee injury.

Boardman should not lose to canfield this year. Canfield lost 8 on each side of the ball. The Spartans returned a ton.

Region 5 is just so bad though...Hudson 0-3, Benny 1-2. 6-4 or 5-5 if they can beat Canfield will probably do it...

Miller didn't play at all...
Team won't go far as long as these coaches are in place. It's the same old stuff every year.

He looked like he had wrapping on his leg, but um yeah I don't know what is going on with the staff sometimes. He scores 2 TDs last week and then doesn't play much tonight...He definitely was on D just no offense though..
McDowell is no slouch either, pretty much a must win.

Agreed. Must win next week or this team is in deep trouble. Biggest turning point for me was when O'Horo took that sack and they ended up punting. He didn't have his best night. Looks hesitant and wild.

McDowell comes in at 2-1. Not sure how they look or what kind of size or speed they bring. But this game is a must win for Boardman if they want to make the playoffs.

So does anyone think that administration and school leaders may be getting too complacent? I mean, if we go 5-5 this year there will still be a possibility of making the playoffs looking at how weak our region is this year. In fact Drew Pasteur already has a couple of 5-5 teams making the Region 5 field in his projections.
5-5 or 6-4 is not good enough given the talent out on the field and the large size (20 or 21) of the senior class. This week is pretty much a must-win, but let's face it, we could win this game and Canfield, then beat Ursuline and Lakeside, be a 4 or 5 seed in all likelihood and maybe even win a playoff game. Everyone would scream success if that happened, but let's be honest, last year Boardman could have easily won Region 7 if it weren't for some injuries (they still had Massillon on the ropes) and outside of Hoban we should be right up there...But who knows. We already looked like the lethargic, uncreative team we did once Ieraci went down last season compared to the first 4 games of 2017...
There is no way Ignazio should keep the job if this team doesn't make the playoffs.
Anyhow, the lower levels last week suffered their first defeats last week. Frosh lost a tight game against McDowell on a last minute score, and the JVs lost by a hair to Canton McKinley. Still seems like some of the lower level talent will be coming in. But I think in D2 5-5/6-4 type teams with 0 or 1 playoff wins should not be viewed as successful seasons.

Boardman will never seriously contend for a state title with the current coaching staff in place.
I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make the playoffs this year to be honest. The offense is still the same, with little adjustments and the defense still cannot defend the pass.
Ignazio has shown he can't beat Canfield, Mooney or Fitch. Sad...
