Without the transfers from Springfield that Shawnee team would have average. I consider it an outlier,a special situation not reflecting the true strength of the program

You're thinking of the 2013 Shawnee team with the Springfield kids. 2011 was the team with Jarzab who actually started at NW but was actually mostly their own talent. They had a run of a few good teams and came up a few plays short of a state championship that year in 11

The situation with the QB in 2013 was the result of having so much success from 2009-2012 IMO, simultaneously with Springfield struggling badly. Shawnee had a really nice five year run there where they won nine playoff games and only lost four KT division games.

The Bellefontaine coaches need to get there special teams figured out... giving up 2 kick off returns for a touchdown is unacceptable

Kenton Ridge beat Northeastern 35-20 in 3 quarters of play. The offense will be explosive which I figured
based on the return of the skill positions however the key will be avoiding turnovers which they had several. The defense looked a little rough and needs to sure up the basics like assignments and tackling but overall looked decent. They will probably win around 7 games depending on how they do in the close ones. Anyone else have any game reports?

What are everyone's thoughts after week 1?

I'm having a hard time getting a good feel for things. Based off of results and common opponents (counting scrimmages), I think there's a very good chance that NW starts 3-0, but that has a lot to do with the non-league schedule appearing to be rather weak. They may end up having a pretty good year and challenge for the MR title, but we won't know much about them until they face Tecumseh week 4 IMO.

When NW scheduled Milton-Union I thought it was a mistake. Looking like it's going to be a great team to have on the schedule now. NW should get by NE rather easily. That week 3 matchup is what will set the tone. Has NW ever been 3-0??
Think Tecumseh can beat Butler and get a good 2-0 start. Shawnee vs tipp is a tossup. Bellefontaine will be on TV Thursday night so that game should be a better measurement than the brutal scrim and week one. Both in rebuilding mode. KR is a big??? Urbana can hopefully sneak out a W. SE vs Graham is intriguing for programs in need of improvement. Don't know much about Alder's opponent this week. CBC seems to be wide open in both divisions this season.

NW actually started out 3-0 in 2013 before finishing 6-4 with a few big blowout losses in league play. I'm not sure that I'm completely down on NE yet for this year. Milton-Union just got blasted by Miami East, who NW had a very competitive jamboree game with. League play has a lot of question marks, but I think the crossover schedule is about as favorable as one could hope for.

Last year, they competed against everyone in league play through three quarters, but had incredible difficulty finishing. Close leads were frustrating losses, and manageable deficits became three TD losses.

There are a lot of interesting games this week. Bellefontaine/Sidney, Tecumseh/Butler, and Alder/Marion Harding. I expect KR to bounce back this week. Shawnee is probably in for a rough time with Tipp.

On the MR side, Indian Lake/Fairbanks is probably the most interesting game this week. Benjamin Logan should reveal some of what type of team they'll end up being this year against West Liberty-Salem. I'm not sure we'll learn much from the other games. Graham may not win a game this year if they don't get the W this week. One of the few certainties I have so far is that SE is not very good.

Ben logan got throttled by a NB team that will end up with only 2 to 3 wins max. I think their fate has already been sealed by that showing against NB

I think you are underselling this New Bremen team. They'll win I think 5
games. Ben Logan should give them a few points and hopefully help them into the playoffs.

Tipp seemed to lack any sort of quality offense losing to Bellbrook 17-9, so Shawnee may have a shot of winning if they can put up some points.

No.

Just no.

I recently moved to CBC country and wow is it a different culture.
Big time.

When I tell people where I come from they are amazed at how late we macsters start football.

But oh well.

Terrible week one for the CBC.

Not a great start for the Conference.

Indian Lake's modest playoff streak looks like it is going to be over.

Anyone looking fantastic this far?

I feel like I don't know a whole lot about anyone at this point. On the KT side, Bellefontaine and Alder both have losses against good opponents/bigger schools. KR got clocked by Mechanicsburg and has turned around to average about 46 ppg the last two weeks.

On the MR side, NW is 3-0, putting up a lot of points against a weak schedule. Urbana's gotten clocked twice by two teams (London and Bellefontaine) that are probably much better than anyone in the MR division.

It kind of seems like both divisions have much to be determined IMO.

The fantastic 50 rankings are probably pretty close to how I'd rank them. I'd go:

Bellefontaine

Alder, KR and Shawnee

Tecumseh, NW, Ben Logan and Urbana

Indian Lake

Graham

I kind of feel that Ben Logan may be a bit underrated at this point. New Bremen may not end up with a very good record, but I'd probably bet they'd beat at least half of the teams in the CBC. Regardless of errors, the WLS win is a good win. USV isn't very good, and they crushed them. Same with Tecumseh. Bellbrook and Butler probably crush everyone in the CBC except for Bellefontaine and maybe 1-2 other team.

There's a few interesting games this week IMO. We should start to learn more about the teams that seem to be in the middle of the pack overall in the league.

NW/Tecumseh, KR/Urbana, and maybe even Alder/Ben Logan could be interesting this week. Bellefontaine should wax Graham, and Shawnee should beat Indian Lake by a few TDs.

How many CBC teams even have a chance of sniffing the playoffs this year?

Some tough results early in the year will give many teams an uphill climb to make it. Even the best team (Bellefontaine) will have their work cut out for them since they had a tough non conference schedule. They would be safe at 8-2, but any slip could keep them out. Northwestern is unbeaten, but they've played small schools with bad teams.
