I am not one to be pessimistic, but here’s some history on poor starts to the seasons for the Wildcats:

Before the 0-2 start of ’87,

In 1978, the Cats tied Parma in game 1 and then lost their next 4, followed by winning their final 4 games

In 1976, the Cats lost their first 2 games (shut out in both) and won game #3 vs St. Joe’s at Euclid HS (the site of this Friday’s game). Déjà vu?

In 1966, the Cats lost their first 3 games, then won their next 4

There are all kinds of reasons to suggest Ignatius will miss out on the playoffs. But IF St Ignatius beats Euclid, a potential 8-2 or 9-1 team, then I think you can't write off the Cats playoff chances yet. If they beat Euclid, it isn't crazy to think that Week 10 could become a play in game for both teams. Elder and Moeller are both coming to Byers. Beat Euclid and split Elder/Moeller, Ignatius is then 5-3 heading into the final two games.

To be honest, I don't see Iggy beating Euclid.
Euclid destroyed both Glenville and Lorain, teams
with SPEED and offensive skill player's that Iggy doesn't
have this season. Especially, Lorain's Daylin Dower.
Seven points against Mentor's D. It's a fact that the
Cardinal's are known for offense every year, but their D can
be had. Last year Euclid put up 59 on them and Pick Central
laid 56 on the Cards. Ed's put up 39 in Week 1. I think Ignatius'
will be fortunate to go, at best, 6-4. But 5-5 isn't unthinkable.
If the Wildcat's do lose to Euclid to go 0-3 then 5-5 is almost
a certainty as I see them probably no better than 2-2 against
Elder, X, Ed's and mighty Moe.

A loss to euclid likely equals a sub 500 year. I dont think there is much of a chance against euclid.

Some recognition for Dre'Mont Jones in college football's Week 1 from Pro Football Focus:

Dre’Mont Jones, DI, Ohio State
Jones posted the top pass-rushing grade among interior defensive linemen with three sacks and a QB hit on only 20 pass-rushing snaps.

I have to ask, what was up with the St Ignatius crowd on Saturday? I have never seen it so small. The student section was as big and loud as ever (kudos to them), but the amount of other fans was very low compared to what I have seen over the years. The weather was nice, the opponent is arguably the 2nd or 3rd biggest of the year (depending on how they rank St X), and it's not like the season was over at 0-1. How many thousands are staying home each year to watch the webcast? While that is doing a lot of good for the tens of thousands of alumni out of the area, how many local alums are just using that to stay home? I see that Massillon charges for their telecasts AND you have to be outside the 30 mile radius or else you get a blackout. If I were SIBN, I would consider one of those options.

I'm certain the holiday weekend and the SIBN are factors, but in my opinion (and I know it won't be popular) Ignatius fans can be very fair weathered at times. That's not unique to just the Ignatius fanbase, but it's a reality.

The Hoban game had a reasonable Ignatius crowd (not the level, though, from pre-SIBN). I know quite a few regulars did not attend the Mentor game because of other commitments and travel during the holiday weekend.

The crowd has steadily decreased over the years. Certainly was less than Hoban, coupled with the decrease over time, also was a holiday weekend, Notre dame playing, etc. Mentor crowd has seemed smaller than past as well. I think football crowds are down overall unfortunately, matching decrease in participation as well

This game against COF is a complete waste of time. Ignatius would be better off with a bye week.

Might end up costing them a playoff spot if the game does count toward the harbors.

Agreed. Waste in all regards, only bad things can happen against this scam "school". Bye would have been much better

He should have never made the commitment to begin with, so stop acting as if it's some kind of honor thing.

Ignatius will gain zero and learn nothing from this game.

If nothing else, this should serve as a confidence-building exercise for the Ignatius offense, a unit that that could clearly use as many live reps as it can get.

Is COF aware there is a game so they can show up on time perhaps, after they are done playing "school" of course?

Fools gold.

The Ignatius offense would get more out of practicing against the Ignatius defense to get ready for Elder.

Filling out a 10 game schedule with the potential to play double the amount of kids (or more) than usual. I think the parents of those kids and the band parents can be counted among the many who disagree with you.

It’s a game played by youngsters.

Do they have fans? Pretty long drive from out of state. Pretty pathetic team but everyone knew that. At least they are putting in hours in the classroom

Gentlemen I’m sorry but we will not be playing a week 4 game. I know many of you have Worked hard to impress a bunch of guys that pose as our fans on line.

And as you know they really know what’s good for the football program and for you kids. So instead of allow you the opportunity to play football game with your best friends we have decided, at their suggestion, that we are not playing this week.

But I know that all of you guys watch a ton of film and do all the right things all weekend. The coaches will find this Colin cat And we will determine if our game next week should be played
