Maple Stang is on a distinguished road
So very sad to learn of his passing early this morning. Grateful to have been able to spend time with him and his son Dan this past June in Key Colony Beach Florida. Dan was so kind as to take my family and I fishing. As we were returning with a bunch of fish in the cooler, Dan said to us,"if I know the Old Man, he'll be outside waiting for us." Sure enough he was outside waiting on the patio. Still with that competitive nature, all he wanted to know was who caught the most and who caught the biggest.
To the entire Milkovich Family and Maple Hts. wrestling community, my deepest sympathies. No one has ever done as much for our great sport of wrestling.

Sending warmest regards to the Milkovich family and all of the Maple Heights wrestling community. Big Mike laid the blueprint for greatness that so many others have followed. If you want to know how or why NEOhio wrestling has dominated for so long; it all starts with Coach Milkovich.

bdhof will become famous soon enough
He was the legend back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. One of the all time greats in Ohio HS wrestling. Gret article above. My favorite story (one I've read before) is this from his son Pat (Oh state champ, 2x NCAA champ 4x NCAA finalist) is this:

"I really didn't want to wrestle in high school, but was afraid to tell my father so I told my mother (Barbara, now deceased) instead," Pat Milkovich said. "She said you'd better tell your father, and eventually told him I didn't want to wrestle. One stern look from him was all I needed to see to know I had no choice in the matter."

I saw old man Milk, at the BW Milkovich Summer Wrestling camp, quite sternly and with irritation, and a bit of volume, say to two wrestlers who were goofing off and not drilling properly, "Get to work ya ham and eggers!!".

What makes the story........the wrestlers were 5 years old and weighed 40 pounds each . They were immediately scared and stepped right into line.

I was laughing my my off. Been using that line ever since
