Your "facts" are meaningless. There are many more factors, not to mention career numbers mean much more in this argument compared to the 2 months of this season. It isn't just opinion either, 99% of baseball wouldn't make that trade.

Bull.... He was specifically referencing Addison Russell, not the Cubs offense.

Career numbers eh? Addison Russell had 1 good season. His "career" numbers are nearly identical to Zack Cozart.
Addison has had 1 good year, 1 average year and 1 terrible start to this year. Not a lot of history to go by.

Russell has upside, not history.

He had maybe the best offensive game ever

http://www.espn.com./blog/sweetspot/...rformance-ever

Although playing in GABP takes something away it imo. That last HR is probably a double in every other park besides Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park

So they would trade for the same guy who is 8 years older?

Cozart didn't even break into the majors until he was 25 (38 at bats), so 26 really. Russell is in his 3rd full MLB season at age 23. Comparing him to Cozart is moronic, at best. Suggesting the Cubs might consider trading him for Cozart is mind blowingly moronic.

Exactly. Upside alone kills that deal (not that there would be any life to it anyways) whether they're looking short term or long term.

Indian dad thinks there isn't enough history to think Russell will play better, but thinks there is enough history for Cozart to pursue a deal thinking he continues to hit way above his historical average. Makes sense.

The reason a Russell/ Cozart trade would make any sense is that the Cubs are in position to win now. They are going to have the capital to buy players as they need them, like Chapman last year.
Now there window is not closing any time soon, but they do need to get better, I feel to win it all this year.
Russell's ceiling is insignificant in 2017, they need a shortstop playing at a high level this season, not 3-4 years now. Today, right now, Cozart is having one of the best seasons as a shortstop. No guarantees for the future, but he's the hot hand right now.

Dumb clings to dumb. The Cubs will have more than enough offense should Russell continue to struggle. They'd have to be absolutely desperate to trade a 23 yo stud and potential perennial all star on the hopes Cozart doesn't revert back to his career mean.

The Mets traded for Jay Bruce, and he reverted back to his former self.

When you are "going for it" you to tend to give up long term potential for short term gain. I know you may not agree with it, but you certainly have to at least understand the thinking. That's all that's at stake here, is you maybe being just slightly open minded.....

The Cubs don't have to take that kind of risk. And Bruce at least was a fairly consistent power bat with an OPS+ above average. Cozart has never been remotely in that category. Sorry you are open enough to consider that.

The Mets traded a guy who was in Triple A at the time. It's not the same situation.

If I say that each of you is probably the smartest guy on this thread, can we stop arguing about a trade (Cozart for Russell) that has zero percent chance of being discussed by knowledgeable baseball people, especially the Reds and Cubs GMs? Age, salary, upside all make this discussion a non-starter for the Cubs. Stop it.

More realistically, Schwarber is off to a terrible start. I bet the Cubs would trade him to the Reds for Scooter. That guy is amazing. You know, Scooter is only 27 and has 30 RBI in only 116 ABs. If the Cubs gave him 600 ABs as a full-time starter in that lineup, Gennett would easily have 175 RBI in a season.

Schwarber is young and starts. Gennett is older and is a utility player. At least Cozart/ Russell play the same position and both start. Obvioulsy the knowledgable baseball people in NY thought Jay Bruce was good and wanted to pay him alot of money for little production. Don't put those guys up on too high of pedestal.

Bruce was actually a productive player in the past and is again this year, Cozart has never been a productive hitter except for his hot start this year. Why are you comparing the two? Cozart will never yield the value Bruce did, much less a top tier talent like Russell.

Cozart got hot at the end of last year, did he not? just maybe they found his problem, corrected it and he will end up being a great ball player.

He did not. He had a poor second half last year.

Ok, let's move on, we've beaten that horse to death...

One of the cool things about baseball is that unlike most other team sports, the rank and file players can step up and make history. 27 year old Scooter Gennett, he of over 1600 at bats and 500 major league games, had only 38 home runs going into last nights game. He now has 42. He may not hit 4 home runs the rest of the season, who knows, but in 4 consecutive at bats in one game, became the first Red in the history of the franchise to do so. That's 20,563 games in the history of the Reds. Crazy stuff.
