West Clermont coming along

Walked by the new West Clermont(combines Amelia & Glen Este) high school today and the stadium framing is up as they lay the new turf.

This will be featured in a lot of the decorating:

Meh....looks like a variation on the Minnesota Timberwolves logo.

Sounds like a good sized stadium.

Do you know if there was any discussion/thought on WC being a playoff host for rounds 2+?

Could be a little closer for those schools from Jackson, Chillicothe etc. that play Cincy/Dayton area teams.

I've heard it discussed, they would love to host playoff games, but I don't have anyway of knowing what has been discussed.

All I know is the size of the stadium they have shared with the community and that they will have a second turf field that will be located beside the stadium.

The OHSAA total is 1759, the ODE is 2297. That is a difference of 538 students. Why the big difference?

OHSAA number only includes grades 9, 10 and 11.

ODE includes the whole school. Must be 538 seniors.

Yea I missed seeing the concrete bases on the East side of the field. The field is looking great.

Do you have any idea why they are blocking off Clough Pike for two months?

I'd say they have to be making multiple lanes. The infrastructure around there isn't built to accommodate this much traffic... hopefully they are adjusting that now or else it's going to be hell getting that many people in/out of the school at 7:30, plus add folks that are just passing by.

See I don't mind the ones in Eastgate... it's just a mess at Glen Este-Withamsville all the way to Wyler, but I don't know how you fix that.

The engineer that put that design together needs to have his engineering license revoked.

Now that they are moving into the ECC what is the outlook? Talking to friends from the purple side, non league schedule is brutal and not sure how much talent they are inheriting from the blue side? Heard the stadium does look nice though.
Thoughts?

Amelia has some very nice underclass skill kids...now whether or not they're ready to compete at the level they'll be at now remains to be seen. Starting the season out with Moeller (scrim) princeton, winton woods, and lasalle though will be tough...gotta come out of that healthy.

Not sure how much talent is returning from last year's two teams.

Looking at their records the Barons and Trojans combined to go 5-15 last year and the level of competition is going to jump quite a bit for the Amelia players. Putting those two programs together will help but I don't see a championship caliber team in the immediate future.

I know there will be a pretty large pool of players but will it take some time for them to see the benefits? I would put them eventually on par maybe with say Lakota East. Will probably have a lot of solid 5-5 to 6-4 seasons with maybe a 7-3 or 8-2 occasionally depending on how they schedule non-conference to get a playoff bid. If they build the program to consistently win over Turpin, Kings, Anderson etc. then maybe they will eventually outgrow the ECC and look to the GMC.

Year one may be a growing one for the Wolves. Seem to have a pretty stout non conference schedule as I think they open with Princeton, Winton Woods, and LaSalle? That could easily be 0-3

ECC won't get much easier with Turpin and Kings probably as strong as usual along with an improving Anderson.

They will probably be in the mix with Loveland, Walnut, Milford and Withrow. I could see a rivalry build with Milford and/or Loveland for Clermont County supremacy.

3-7 or 4-6 may be a reality?

If I am correct on schedule:

Princeton-GE got soundly defeated by the Vikings last year.

Winton Woods-GE lost even worse to Warriors. Schools seem to have a good relationship and will likely face off with regularity.

LaSalle-defending GCL and D2 state champs. I think they will be a handful for the Wolves and Lancers will wrap it up by halftime.

Have to get through these games healthy and not have their confidence shattered.

Conference play

Anderson-improving Redskins I think will be too much.

Kings-Knights lost some players but are always strong in ECC play and win comfortably.

Loveland-back down to earth a few years removed from state title but still beat GE fair and square last year. Best chance for a "name" victory for the Wolves in year one.

Milford-winnable game as GE beat them last year. Again I see a good chance for a Clermont County themed trophy of some kind starting here.

Turpin-Spartans will be too much, even with new coaching staff

Walnut Hills-good chance for another ECC win here. Walnut may be in a tailspin for a while with all that is going on with the program.

Withrow-Trojans gutted out a hard fought battle over the Tigers getting a tough 12-6 win last year. I see another W coming for the Wolves here.

3-7 with wins over Milford, Walnut and Withrow. Could get win 4 over Loveland?

I'd say boys basketball will have the best chance to be immediately competitive when looking at the bigger sports. Not sure about things like golf.

I also will say that while Amelia wasn't winning many games and didn't have the best players, they have some athletes walking the halls that didn't play for various reasons. That could change with the merger. New facilities, new team, new chance to get out there and do something. I think it will take a few building years but they shouldn't have any issues being toward the top of the ECC within 5 years.

This area is booming. There are new subdivisions going up all over the place. If they get the right coach and start developing their youth programs this high school could be a real contender in a few years. With a new high tech school and new athletic facilities the students and their families will have a lot to rally around. It's all about the attitude. If they get some strong leadership in the coaching positions and boosters West Clermont could end up being a real fun place to be.

Exactly......The Ayers family has been synonymous with Glen-Este High School since they opened the joint 50 years ago. Zach Taylor is an Amelia alumn, nobody gets his kids to play harder or execute as well as he does. Both guys know the type of athlete they'll have to work with. I am sure there will be growing pains, but these two guys were the perfect hire for West Clermont Football. Mazzaro for Boys Basketball, and Click for Girls Basketball ain't bad either. I'm optimistic about WC's chances.
