I just know we have a crap ton of hogs dwn here. Most people hunt them bc of the nuisance. I have around 15 snares set up and every few weeks we stay up and hunt them and night. Just collect bacon grease and used Motor oil poured on corn.

Our owners son every 6 months rents a helicopter with some his clients and friends. They use it to herd the hogs and they lay waste. Just did it a few weeks ago. Probably spent over 150k doing it

You guys need to be buying steers.......not cows. Cows are ok if you get them entirely made into hamburger. But for the better cuts of meat, you don't want an old cow.

As far as the corn fed vs. grass fed organic stuff, I would take the corn fed every time. If you want your meat lean, find someone who feeds out Holstein steers with corn and have them butchered at around 1200 lbs. Then, when you fry up those hamburgers, you'll wonder where the grease is.

A friend and his family accompanied us on vacation one year, he had 1/2 cow in a garage freezer. Apparently the power went out for a significant period while we were on vacation (in July). He said there was a shallow pool of blood and a stench he could smell from the curb. I think he had to hire a restoration company to clean it up.

I think getting a steer is the norm. Cows are for milk. Apologize for poor nomenclature.

Been there before.

We unplugged our freezer when we had a significant amount of water in the basement. During the cleanup we forgot to plug it back in. Opened it up a while later and almost passed out. It was unreal.

After that we put the freezer up on cinder blocks just in case.

Fan of Chinese restaurant food, where the things you eat are cut into tiny pieces and so obscured by sauces that they are indistinguishable ?

Unless it's a Holstein you probably won't drink that particular cow's milk. Steers are neutered and used for the meat industry.

A cow if a female that has had a calf, before that she is a heifer

I'm not quite that bad. I'd just rather my meal not have lived in my community.

I much prefer grass fed beef. I like double muscled breeds such as the French bred for Oxen use. It may take longer to get them to weight but they are enough leaner the net lbs of meat and cost to feed them is much better.

Taste? I like heifers that are around 800 -1200 lbs and on a large framed French bovine that is usually 12 -15 months, especially if the calf was not weaned until 6 months.
