Strongsville Head Basketball Coach

Anyone hear any rumors on the Strongsville basketball coaching position?

Someone had mentioned maybe Sean O'Toole?

He is AD at Gilmour and he has 2 sons (a junior and freshman) playing varsity bball there. Doubt very much he is going to change after being there 1 year

They should just hire a teacher from within the system. It is not going to matter win/loss wise over the next few years who they hire.

No one qualified on staff. Program is in shambles talent wise and coaching wise. Needs total reboot. Wonder why this is taking so long....

With your post, I believe you answered your own question...If there is any employee/staff member qualified it appears they are shying away from the job.

No knowledge of his intentions or circumstances, but I was a bit surprised Avon's current HC Kevin Sapara, a Strongsville alum, didn't have an interest. At least enough to inquire. He has done very well building Avon up to respectability, culminating in a conference championship and trip to the districts this past season. If he did leave for the Ville, I wonder if O'Toole...an Avon resident...would seek a position at Avon?

Rumor is that he is a finalist. I am sure with an excellent reference from Joe too.

But you are saying that is false, he has no interest?

Per the district's website, there are several winter sport coaching vacancies posted, however, the boys basketball coaching position is not among them...Perhaps the search is over?! Anybody have info on this to share?

No. I just stated I would be surprised if he didn't have an interest. Sounds like he might.

sapara and O'toole?? why not just throw Flannery, Mackey, debevac in there. That is a wish list. No chance a coach of that caliber touches this job.

Actually, Sapara has shown interest.

But he'd be crazy to leave Avon for Strongsvillle--both from a coaching and teaching standpoint.

I'm interested in seeing just how far the district will have to go to fill this coaching assignment...And, to see who is ultimately willing to take it!
Dismissed coach Collins teaches in the Berea school district I believe, coached varsity basketball at Strongsville...Perhaps, in order to get this coaching vacancy filled, the district will have to go so far as to create a teaching position and allow all of the years of teaching experience to transfer in as was the case in securing football coaches Laird and Cirino.

District is in downward spiral since the labor dispute.

Would Tucker Neal ever be considered for this position?

Say what you will about Tucker and his SMAC/Ohiobasketball.com doings but he was a very good division 1 player, runs the Strongsville rec/ youth programs - he has several kids (boys and girls) going through the Strongsville school system now, he has ran SMAC for the last 15 years plus and coached some very elite High School talent in AAU mostly on the girls side but also on the boys side.

I know the majority of SMAC teams aren't very good and it appears those teams are used to fund the "elite" teams but that is how a lot of programs do it so I am sure there are a lot of disgruntled parents out there from that aspect.

But, that aside. Given his resume and connection to the school... Would he ever(even want to) be selected to be a head coach at either the boys or the girls side.

No way he could financially take the job!

^^^That^^^

Good businessman. But coaching--especially a reclamation project in a really good league--is a different beast, and I don't care the playing-career pedigree. Not sure what he'd have to gain by taking this type of job

With no teaching job guaranteed, that rules out the guys mentioned above for those following the rumors in the thread which may actually be pretty accurate.

They should just give it to Kilbane or Lipowski. They actually like coaching there, went to that HS and live in and care about the kids and community.

Hopefully they can win a few more than Collins, but the conference is just brutal.

This job was posted on March 9th!!!

That is 61 days ago, 2 full months!

What is going on here?!?!

I knew the program was in bad shape, but to have offered the job to three seperate people and all three have turned it down? The kids deserve better.

Is it talent, the school, support, administration, or all of the above? Not having any teaching openings, as stated previously, would eliminate alot of candidates.

no name dropping. I am sure they will find the right person at some point. Nobody inside the program wants the job?

Andy should just pull the Dick Cheney move when George W. Bush hired him to find the best VP candidate to run with. Hire himself, add the supplemental to his salary, and call it done for this year, lol. Can't do any worse than last year.

You left out school board...Inadvertently I suspect.

Even though the district habitually pleads poor, it has in the past created teaching positions to fill coaching vacancies.

Considering it has taken this long, it probably isn't a great hire.
