Might want to replace "the" with "some" on that quote. Delphos SJ will bring a big crowd to Columbus.

You sir win the thread. Basketball is a star driven sport, get another Sullinger, Lebron, Mayo type of top recruit and you'll see it fill up. Otherwise there's no point other than to watch yours or a local school

Wauseon sold 1,510 tickets. Should be a packed house for the Indians

Do not forget the action watching the Ohio State University police pull over Gloria and the James Posse in the new Hummer his senior year on Lane was worth the price of admission 10x over.

There is NEVER a time VASJ fans get complacent- it's always a big deal. We realize fully how hard it is to get there and don't take that for granted. Joe's will have a nice turn out along with two or three spirt buses.

Offiicer: Mam, you can't park in the middle of Lane Ave while you go inside and buy tickets

Gloria: Don't you know who I am?

Officer: No

Gloria: I'm Lebron's mom

Officer: You're still getting a ticket

Tourney attendance thoughts

A lot of empty seats on the Eastmoor Academy side. Yikes! And the Wauseon side at this mornings first semi.

Teams get there so often anymore that it's not unique to them or their fan base, or, for that matter, the casual fan. Kind of "been there, done that." Also, the skill level, fundamentals in particular, are lacking. Teams seem to throw it "all over the gym" and it's frustrating watching that kind of basketball, especially for us old timers.
Pretty close to my thoughts. I just never cared if there was a big name there. I really liked the passing, hard-nosed defense, and pretty consistent officiating. We would probably end up with tickets to about 7 of the 9 games. We stayed in campers right by the hockey rink. Everything about going is different. Nothing is as convenient.

Could someone explain the tickets sent out to coaches and admin types by OHSAA. Are these comps and are they included in the attendance figures?

Coaches and administrators pay for their tickets (or their school does). What they do with them once they get them is up to them. I'm pretty sure the attendance numbers are actual attendance now that they scan tickets as you enter. Used to be tickets sold and the numbers were sometimes really screwed up. The last game on Saturday night always had attendance numbers much much higher than actual people in the arena

I heard a report the STVM-Trotwood attendance was estimated around 8900 as well. Doesn't seem to be too bad attendance for day games on a Thursday.

I would not be surprised if the D4 final between Lutheran East/Columbus Wellington goes down as the least attended game in the modern era of the state tournament. ...

Agreed!!! I love small school basketball but I wouldn't watch Lutheran East play if the game was in my driveway and they paid me to go. The OHSAA has allowed HS sports turn into a recruiting war. To hell with all of them.

If I rounded up I'd say Lutheran East had maybe 200 fans at today's game. the other end of the arena was a sea of blue and gold.

Tourney attendance thoughts

9,485 was the attendance for the D-III semi between VASJ and Fairland.

Largest attended Semi for the weekend so far. And possibly Roger Bacon and Archbold could outdraw the 1st D-3 Semi :Easily the Jackson vs St.Ed's and Pick Central vs Moeller games will have the largest crowds

This is why attendance is "down" (anything over 7,000 for a high school game is very good IMO). The quality of games are down as a whole. 4 out of 6 games so far have been blowouts...who wants to pay money and watch that

This theme is dominating these boards this week, seems to be the prevailing consensus, and has rendered many state tournaments other than this one pretty much an irrelevant joke.

As a casual observer that's been at all but one game this weekend, the issue is obviously small privates that beat down everyone else in the lower divisions. With the exception of DSJ they don't bring many fans, and they punch out the Fairland and Archbold type community schools that do. If those two played today they would have had as many or more in attendance than either DI game.

Looks like it's up to Jax to avoid the private school sweep for the weekend.
