Qualifier is Sunday, April 30th @Delaware Hayes HS! Please consider joining us. Goal is simple...National Title to honor Coach John Brown! Can't beat this experience. All inclusive trip including a top-notch training camp, 15 plus matches, and lots of fun! We take four teams so plenty of openings to go around. Qualifier champions automatically qualify and we fill the rest with petitions. Wrestling in the qualifier greatly helps your chances. Hope to see everyone then!

A couple small mistakes on the flier...Please just plan to be there April 30th and register in person. If you can't make the qualifier for any reason, please call or email me so we can get a petition in!

New flier has been uploaded!
Couple of notes:
1. Added the address to send petitions to. Please make sure you mail these (With your $20 fee) before the qualifier if you want to be considered for the team and won't make it to the qualifier! We will have petitions available at the qualifier for those who don't win and automatically make the team.
2. As of this time we will just be accepting walk-in registrations. Registration/Weigh-in will start at 7:30. Please plan to get there close to this time to avoid chaos at the cut off time.
3. There will be an experienced head official at the event to explain/interpret rules.
4. No Freestyle experience necessary! If you make the team, we will teach you everything you need to know at the mini camp to be successful.
5. FINALLY...If a great camp, 15 matches, an amazing gear package, and tons of fun is not enough to convince you do this...We will have 4x OHSAA State Champion, 4x All American at tOSU, and former World MMA Champion LANCE PALMER at camp as a guest clinician this year!!

Again...Please do not hesitate to call or email questions. Would love to make this our best year ever! Coach Brown was a great man who impacted the lives of so many people...This year is dedicated to him. Come be a part of it.

Are the years of birth correct for age group? Schoolboy is 2000 and 2001?

Falcon: No they are not...Will get that fixed. Usually everyone that comes wrestles Elite regardless of actual age group. Elite is the only one that is eligible for the team. We have anywhere from 8th graders to graduating seniors wrestling elite...

Thank you for catching that...Ages are corrected and new flier is uploaded.

Again, we rarely get many in the other age divisions. Most will wrestle Elite to try to make the team. Thanks!

Getting a lot of emails about age groups...Remember we released fliers where age groups were not updated. Please refer to the one attached in the first post for accurate divisions! All high school will be the "Elite" division.

Qualifier Tournament is this Sunday! Remember to get a petition in by then (attached on another thread) if you want to be on the team but cannot make it for any reason.

It would be great to bring a great team and national title home in the Junior Olympics. Coach Brown took a lot of pride in the teams and individuals that he took. He was a great mentor and coach to hundreds of athletes. Hoping the teams do great!! It's a fun trip.

Why JO’S?
“I push my guys toward JO’s for many reasons. First, there’s the competition; guys are going to wrestle against some of the best guys in the state at the qualifier and at the mini-camp, and they’re going to see some of the best guys in the country at the JO Games. Secondly, there’s the instruction; the coaches, clinicians, and format of the mini-camp is outstanding. Then, there’s the number of matches a guy gets, which is probably the best thing. Because the format of the JO’s is a dual-style tournament, a guy gets in more than 15 matches at the JOs. Finally, there’s the experience; the JO’s are fun. Freestyle is fun. Working with other wrestlers and coaches is fun. So, it’s a no-brainer for me.”

Backbend: We took out the AAU "Cadet" division because 99% of the athletes that wrestle in the qualifier want to be eligible to make the team. 2002 is eligible to compete in the "Elite" division for a spot on Team Ohio.

No problem! Every year we debate whether we do a cadet division or not. When we do, usually only one or two choose that division since "Elite" is the only one eligible to make the team. So we usually end up combining anyways...Hope this makes sense!

Why Junior Olympics?

"I thought it was a great time to be with a ton of wrestlers for a week; not only competing hard, but having fun together."
-Shakur Laney- 2x State Placer, JO Gold Medalist, 2017 MAC Champ, 2017 Junior Olympic Coach

"JO's was a very fun experience because we got to travel with great wrestlers from all over the state, compete against some of the best wrestlers in the country, and have a little bit of vacation time with friends in-between competitions."
- Max Wright- 2x State Qualifier, D1 State Placer (3rd), JO Gold Medalist

Another Coach Perspective:

"The Junior Olympic trip has been a pivotal experience for all wrestlers that I have had participate and travel on the team over the last 4 years. From the training camp practicing with some of the state's elite, to competing in 15-20 matches against national level competition over a four day span; all wrestlers will benefit greatly. If you take a kid with a lot of experience wrestling it will take their game to the top level. If you take a kid with little experience it will serve as a key developmental process that leads to future success because they are forced to adapt to the level of competition. Usually the kids I take that get the most out of the experience are standing on the podium at State the following season. Not to mention it is a blast for everyone! The Junior Olympic experience is definitely a win-win experience!"
- Alex Poinar; Coventry HS Coach

Elite athlete perspective:

"Wrestling at JO's is not only a great wrestling opportunity but it is also a good place to meet lots of lifelong friends."
