Struthers football 2017
The cats come into the new year fresh off a 9-1 season with the conference title. Struthers brings back a lot of starters but loses Aj Musolino arguably the best wildcat ever.
Junior Willie mitchell is going to be a key player this year. Started mike LB and RB as a sophomore and just picked up his first offer from Bowling Green. 2 all state linemen return and a ton of experience with them.
The defense returns 7/11 starters as well. Looking for the cats to do well.
The schedule is as follows
Liberty
Crestview
Niles
Jefferson
Canfield
Poland
Open (Campbell withdrawal)
Hubbard
Edgewood
Lakeview
What say you

Actual dates for 2017 are:
Struthers Wildcats
08/25 A Youngstown Liberty
09/01 H Columbiana Crestview (first time playing the Rebs)
09/08 A Niles McKinley
09/15 H Jefferson Area
09/22 A Canfield
09/29 H Poland Seminary
10/06 Open Date (Was Campbell Memorial)
10/13 H Hubbard
10/20 A Ashtabula Edgewood
10/27 A Cortland Lakeview
It should be another good season for the Cats.
Playoffs would definitely be nice.
Musolino is a once in a (fill in the blank) type of player. Doesn't come around too often at a school our size. (Stewart and Reyes are two that come to mind)
Canfield, Niles and Poland will all be decent games. Just not sure how much graduation takes a toll. Would be nice to beat Poland two years in a row.
Hubbard Eagles coming to Struthers for all the marbles in the AAC. Should be a great match-up as it's been lately.
Anyone know what's on tap for Week 7, please post. Maybe someone has a bit of inside information.
I too, would like to see Struthers pick up Bay.
Hardly a chance that Mooney gets scheduled, for obvious reasons.
I'll give the AD a break. Hopefully she does better than a Toledo Scott.
I like our chances this year.

5-5 with a very remote chance of 6-4, but I doubt it.

Depending on who replaces Campbell, I think this is a 7 win season.

Your unbridled hatred posts for The Eagles of Hubbard High is definitely distorting your sense of reality.
Keep posting though, it's quite amusing.

On paper, 7 or 8 wins seems reasonable. Hubbard, Canfield, Poland and Lakeview will be big games. Niles, Jefferson, Liberty, Crestview and Edgewood should give them little trouble.

Really the only player that stood out for Struthers last year was the Quarterback!!!I know the line was decent and opened up some holes for the ok running slash quarterback, but Struthers was kinda one dimensional and those are the facts.......

That decent line has produced two all state players who are coming back and one division 1 recruit. Obviously (everyone) is seeing otherwise. And there's the division 1 recruit running back/ middle linebacker. The entire defensive front 7 actually.
But yes the QB was a stud. Best player to come through struthers in the last ten years or so on both sides at least. But there is another QB who is very good who has been waiting for his chance. The younger level cats have all been winning and they are very good. I hope struthers can compete for the conference crown but I am not going to say anything like that yet. Stop crowning teams before the season!! Never happens

Struthers will not be as good as last year . They have a really good freshman class last year and I think a lot of them kids will be playing this season coming up. With the loss of mus I could seen the cats winning 6 or 7 games this year. Canfield and Hubbard will be the hard games for the cats to win. The front 7 on defense will be good . I have been hearing rumors about a possible qb coming from another school to Struthers this year . Not sure if it's true or just talk .

If the X's and O's match the personal and obviously they stay healthy, the Cats will definitely be competitive this year. Losing a stud hurts, but I'm sure there are other skill players to distribute the load to. Should be a fun season to watch...

Mooney has 10 games already....
.... though Mooney/Struthers would be great for all involved. Bummer it won't happen.

I am absolutely working towards the goal of attending the Struthers-Hubbard game!...
Since Hubbard plays at Struthers this coming season, I thought it more appropriate to place this post here...
My Struthers Wildcat ex-husband won't have much choice, but to attend this game, with me in tow...I have just ordered these T-Shirts for us and this should be fun!:
I doubt very much I can walk too far, so we will sit on the "home" side of the stadium...I can just "see" us now with the furious sign language and gesturing going on..LOL!

Hello, HubCapper!
My ex and I sign whenever we're together..very little sound comes out of either of our mouths and certainly not in the way of discernible vocabulary...[I have never seen the logic of needing to speak in clear, precise English with my voice to one who cannot hear it]
Since the 70's, we had devised our own "secret" sign language...it is compiled of idioms, and gestures we have made up for certain words and phrases...
Even one who is adept at American Sign Language won't be sure what we're talking about..[trust me, that was tested on several occasions]...

Are you 100 percent sure , because I heard it from some of the Struthers football players that they heard it to. I also heard from a Poland person that the dad of the kid is not happen with coaching staff and they way they used 2 qbs last season . There is Struthers ties to this kid. You might be right it could all be talk , but nothing would surprise me anymore with kids jumping from school to school.

Bottom line for me:
I support ALL of the high school teams in the Mahoning and Trumbull Counties!
That's why the games are played on the field...may the best teams win this season and it is also my most fervent wish that injuries are minimal to all the kids participating...
Ideally, I would LOVE an injury-free season to all, but I think that's a far-fetched goal in a sport such as football...
And yes, HubCapper..Hubbard stadium IS beautiful...whether the Eagles win or lose there...I have been there several times in the past...
Every high school stadium I have been to has its own unique charm..I had always come away from each and every game with unique memories and mostly good experiences...[even when there was a blackout at the Struthers-Hubbard Game a few years ago at the Struthers Stadium...what fun!]

I never mentioned names or said Kuntz was doing it. Kuntz can't stop it if it did Happen because struthers has OE. I know Kuntz wouldn't do that it's not his style .
