Perry Panthers 2017

Panthers return 11 full time players off this years D-2 runner up team.
Rob Kirchner WR/DB, Luke Millin TE/LB, Dominick Bowman DB/WR, Zach Blackiston DE/TE, Max Baker QB/DB, Jarin Curtis RB/LB, Frank Scuiry DB/WR, Tyler Cowan WB/LB, Sir Elliot LB/RB, Kevin Miller OL/DL, Karson Vinas OL/LB.
A couple big shoes to fill at center and guard with Douglass and Carrick gone, but I'm sure they have some good prospects to fill those positions.

2017 Schedule
Vandalia Butler - A
Central Catholic - A
Parma Valley Forge - H
Jackson - A
Walsh Jesuit (Stow) -H
Hoover - A
Green - H
Lake - A
Canton McKinley- H
GlenOak-H

Future looks bright. It will be interesting to see if LaSalle bumps to D1 and what D3 schools may bump to D2 next year.

Perry is statewide open enrollment and depending on the make-up of their roster, they could also bump up to D1 next season.

I highly doubt there are enough to make a difference, but you may be right. We'll see.

Week 5's contract was signed. Home game vs. Walsh Jesuit (According to Arbiter).

Looks like I might miss 1 game this season, maybe two because Central is pretty far away also, lol. Too bad the McKinley game isn't an away game, I want to get in that new stadium.

I know #69 for Massillon lives in Perry Twp. which got me thinking, how many Perry kids are there playing for other teams and vice versa? Is it a big deal or is the open enrollment pretty even across the county?

I didn't say they would I said they could. Perry was a mere 13 boys from being D1 last count. Depending on the new divisional cutoff and Perry's enrollment trend it may not take very many open enrollment kids to bump Perry up to D1. Perry has a good number of OE kids in the school, I just don't know how many play football.

They will have a great team once again. Solid team and great coaching staff. Nothing but respect for the Perry Panthers.

Perry has a very solid nucleus of players coming up and they will be very good for the immediate future. If they were to be bumped up to D1, I don't think that would necessarily hurt them in any way. I personally thought the competition at D2 was not much different than D1. However, if Perry was on 13 boys away from the D1 mark last time, I would say they are probably going up a division.

With all due respect, I disagree pretty strongly. Mentor, Solon, Pick Central, Davidson, St. Ignatius, Wayne, St. Edward, St. X, and Colerain are a huge difference when hitting the tourney as opposed to Hudson, Avon, Massillon, Scioto, Lake, etc. The only team that compares in D2 is LaSalle.

Perry possibly back to D1? Great news! Only having four D1s in Stark isn't the same.

Regarding competition -- I'm sure Perry could hang with or even beat some of the power schools in D1R1, but yeah, stringing together a deep playoff run isn't going to happen. The Stark schools really need to be back in R2. The population/talent disparity is way too high in R1. It's going to be murder just to get to the second/third rounds, much less win the region.

And with Open enrollment kids counting as 2 instead of 1, all the players that live in Canton City and other districts that attend Perry could put them over the top easy

I wouldn't put anything past Perry as far as beating some of the better DI teams but D2 and D1 are different worlds.

Anyone know the status of Wakefield? Rumblings before the season started that this was it for him. Haven't heard anything recently. Anyone?

I'm not so sure Perry will move up with enrollment declining ever so slightly. We shall see. I think for some it's wishful thinking.

Who is afraid to play us now ? Don't forget we ended the Massillon series, I would hope teams want to face us, just wish we scheduled some bigger names out of the Federal League, we don't need to be 10-0 every year, just have to make the playoffs.

Footballcrazy, not sure if you are a Perry fan or not. Coach Wake and company have did an outstanding job with scheduling . You CANNOT argue with the results. fyi a home field advantage for the first game is an advantage.

Perry most likely won't move back up to D-1 as D-1 will still be capped at 72 teams. Perry isn't largely known to recruit a lot, even as OE the numbers most likely won't add enough to enrollment to pass any of the other D-1 teams that exist now. The way OHSAA set D-1 up, CBP won't affect it much, very few D-2 teams will gain enough enrollment from CBP to overtake other D-1 teams, who will also be subject to the CBP numbers. Most of the movement from CBP will only take place in D-2 and lower divs.

Anyone know if the new practice field will be done for camp? The plans for the new auxiliary gym/wellness center seem to be moving forward.

New wellness center is to be built behind the pool. Includes auxiliary gym, locker rooms and facilities for a new culinary arts program. Part of the building footprint is on the current football practice field. The new field will be shifted south, closer to the tracks. Not sure what will happen to the softball field.

What I looked at said Perry 611, and D1 is 617 & up. Hoover was 591. Unless you know something I don't. Massillon was 500 so we sure as heck aren't going anywhere.

TigerPaw, it's because of the competitive balance equation. Open enrollment up our total boys to 632.
